You're an old car guy if you had a few too many and the cops would pull you over and drive you home.

If my wife is dressed to kill she is dressed in camo and packing a 30-06 and she needs that fender to hall a deer home hopefully not in the middle of the night.... Tedd

Not to offend anyone, but,

You know you're an old car guy when you come this close to grabbing a beer at the 7-11 to drink on the way home after a hard day at work, and then suddenly remember that you can't, anymore.

And, remember how no road trip with the guys was complete without a cooler in the middle of the front seat?

I loved being stationed in AZ for their open container laws...that was a fun time. I don't ever remember the boys and I driving down the road without a "road soda" lol!

When your shops 'anti-theft device' consists of 10 ft of 1/2 in Gr 80 chain, a chromoly padlock, cemented 1/2 in eye hook, and your Clutchflite.

You taped a flashlight to the front fender of your '57 Chevy to drive home from the drag strip after blowing the windings out of the generator , so you could reserve battery to run the ignition for the hour trip home .

used a coat hanger that laid beside the console to open the secondary carbs on the tri-power set-up ( left that way to keep anyone else that drove it " out of trouble " ) next door neighbor in the '60s

Could manually shift the automatic to low without hitting reverse every time . ( PNHLR )

Used tar as body filler ( my grand dad )

Can't remember what you just thought about long enough to type it

Oh I remember now ...

If your mobil phone took up as much room in the trunk as your spare tire .

...when the cops pull your buddy and you over for running a red light (I was the passenger) in his '68 Z/28, believe that it is stolen, (it wasn't) because of improper plates and no insurance (hey, he just bought it on the weekend), ya try to hide the 12 pack on the floor with your legs as the officer shines his light in the car, has ya spread eagle on the hood (remember, might be stolen), asks you in the back of the cruiser, "what the story was", tells us to walk home, and if the car is moved before daybreak, he will come and arrest us (it stays, we stay out of jail), aannnd, he asks me if i want to be a cop...go put my application in at the civil service department!

you know your and old guy when one short piece of fencing wire was enought to jump start a car,
or if your starter is a bit weak you 24 volt it
Or if you nearly sink the car going through a crossing and the leads and cap get soaked you dont hesitate to take off your shirt,
Or if you realize the only way back is to go through the same crossing again and expect your mate to give up his shirt!!

hmmm... if my feeble memory serves.... I seem to remember using single thickness of matchbook for the points and double thickness for spark plug gap... that was of course after filing the point contact faces to get a couple more weeks out of them, till the next check came in! ;-)

Used a coat hanger when my clutch cable broke.
Tied a small rope to my wiper in one window out the other window to the other wiper, then make my wife pull the rope back and forth.

I had a Vega with a 350 in it and I did that once. But it was a 4 speed manual.Talk about some rough shifts.
