Looks aren't everything, and when a person has limited resources it is better to get it safe first, running strong second, and looking sharp last. Unless you have a a place to leave it until it is completely finished. Many vehicles that age aren't complete restorations, I bet that guy has lots of fun driving that truck.

Rods
Yeah and back in them days the metal was a little heavier so some surface rust doesn't necessarily mean full of holes. A guy I knew out west used to restore old cars into rods and one I got to see was a 38 Pontiac coupe that was rust from bumper to bumper. He removed all the surface rust and had a solid steel shell , no holes anywhere. The car was found in a farmers field in saskatchewan where there is no salt and though cold in winter it is dry. he sold it for 20,000 U.S. at a car show he went to. Wish I had pics of it but it turned out great and he did not change the body style at all. He did put in a 400 hsp SBC motor and changed drivetrain , disc brakes , suspension etc. Some of those older cars make great rods and if done right they are nice cars.
