Wow ROCK Auto... Im a new fan!!!

I went to the website today just to look around. They have tons of parts for Cutlass and Oldsmobile. Rust parts also. Alot of the stuff on my wish list that I was saving for was half or less there. I needed a water pump $30.00 compared to $90.00 at Autozone. I got a HEI $40.00 Tons of other stuff. Wife was annoyed that I spent $600.00 but there is a huge pile of parts on the way.. I got everything I needed to get my Vert on the road for 70% less than I had priced everything out.. I dont usually talk about a company but man with these economic times everything counts. I also found a online coupon code for 10% off.. Thanks Rock Auto.....

After I was shown Rock Auto a few years ago , I never go into the local auto parts store
for large ticket items anymore unless it's a small part to save on shipping.

I get 90% of my replacement parts through Rock Auto.

Glad you like them but you're preaching to the choir.
RockAuto.com has been the most highly recommended parts site of choice for as long as I can remember here.

We were Rock Auto when Rock Auto wasn't cool.

The only BAD thing you discovered is why you did not use them earlier! I said that to myself after my first order long ago.
After thousands of $'s woth over many years, and counting my friend's experiences, I have no negatives.
Well, playing the shipping game can be a little confusing, but those perpetual 5% discounts make up for it.

Yeah Im kicking myself for not using them sooner... As far as not being made in the USA. Unfortunately most of the parts we buy for our cars are not made in the US... Anything you buy from Autozone or Oreillys is made in Mexico or other than US...That sucks. I would pay a little more for USA made parts.. Not 2-3 times as much though,,

In a few rare cases with RA, I got brand substitutes on a few obsolete or clearance items. A lot of times, these are dusty old stock units sitting on non-Rockauto shelves somewhere in the US...
However, those cases ended up to my advantage.
Imagine my surprise when i ordered a closeout Standard Motor Products EGR valve for 20 bucks (regular price 68) and got a NOS Ford part with all the correct labeling! Let's just say I was smiling like a possum eating s***...

Yup! Ditto on the love for Rockauto!I've turned a few friends on to the savings. Not all of them. Just my favorite friends. My daughters fiance wanted a strut for their Dodge Caliber and noplace around there had them. Supposedly a dealer item only. Nope. Saved them like 27 bucks

After showing a friend pictures of my new Gas tank install (from Rock Auto $112.00 +$20 shipping Spectra made in Canada) he said that is nice and his 57 Chevy needed a tank also but he had to get it from Danchuck because that's the only place that carried it , I quickly sent him the Rock Auto link for a Spectra Tank for his car for only $170 .... he sent me back an email thanking me ...

Not this time

I tried it out... Everything added up to be super cheap until they calculated shipping. It was $8.60 to ship the $5.85 oil filter ($11 at the parts store) and another $8.65 to ship $6.50 worth of spark plugs... All ground shipping. I had a few other things (points, ballast resistor, condenser to name a few) and my total of $42.66 cents with tax became $62.60 cents with shipping... Almost EXACTLY what I will pay mom and pop and have tomorrow. They had to ship the parts from three different locations so I had to pay three different shipping charges. No deal.

I usually as a rule try to buy from REPUTABLE brick and mortar stores when I can (not the Autozone which told me my car doesn't exist because it wasn't in the system), only buying online when its the only option. This goes for eveything- guns, cars, guitars, etc.

Rock Auto does ROCK, check this comparison from RA and American Autowire.
What was interesting was I couldn't get these parts to come up under the selected vehicle option I had to put AAW part numbers in RA search to find them.

AMERICAN AUTOWIRE Part # 12470
* Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 4 business days$31.79$31.79AMERICAN AUTOWIRE Part # 12525
* Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 4 business days$31.79$31.79Electrical : Headlamp Wiring HarnessRelated PartsAMERICAN AUTOWIRE Part # 13260
* Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 4 business days$127.79$127.79Electrical : A/C Wiring HarnessRelated PartsAMERICAN AUTOWIRE Part # 13325
* Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 4 business days$89.79$89.79Electrical : Engine Wiring HarnessRelated PartsAMERICAN AUTOWIRE Part # 11585
* Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 4 business days$73.79$73.79Ignition : Ignition Conversion KitAMERICAN AUTOWIRE Part # 38131
* Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 4 business days$120.79$120.79Subtotal$475.74Discount-$23.79

Total with shipping was 468.49

Now for American Auto Wire:

Total savings using RA 152.51

Fusicks sells American Autowire battery cables and they look VERY well made. I have not installed them yet and now feel like I just spent 20 bucks too much. Oh well...
Yes, RA is great for most things. Air and oil filters, not.

Rob, Glad to hear the quality looks good. With my luck I was afraid after getting such a great deal someone would say they were junk.
Funny I looked at air filters and the selection wasn't very good.

Glad I posted in time for you Ralsy, nice car.

Fusick tries to only sell good stuff (and Olds specific) and from experience and what they and others say, they do.
AM. AW has a great rep, too. I think you should have good luck with the wiring.

I've been using RockAuto for years with excellent results. In one case I had ordered e-brake cables for a truck and one had been incorrectly packaged (right box, wrong part). They sent me a replacement within a couple of days.

Now, the thing to watch out for is shipping costs. Sometimes it's reasonable, sometimes not. Heavy or oversize items like rotors or exhaust pipes don't make economic sense to order from RA. Usually I will on-line comparison shop RA, NAPA, and Advance. Surprisingly, after factoring sales tax vs. shipping, the local NAPA was cheaper on a set of rotors. Also, Advance will price match (though usually the inexperienced counter jockeys don't know that). When I did the exhaust on my 62, I priced all the parts on RA, printed the price sheets, and took them in to Advance. They matched the price and shipping was free. I spent an extra $15 in sales tax but saved $60 in shipping.

One final note is that RA can get many more parts than they list. If you know the part number, search by P/N and the parts come up. For example, if you search for motor mounts for a 1970 442, there is no listing. If you search for Anchor 2328, they come up. Also, parts like Walker mandrel bend pipes and Dynomax mufflers don't usually show up when searching by make but do show up when you search the P/N.

Rock Auto has been great so far for me. I have ordered from them many times. My most recent order they sent a messed up tie rod (wrong threads). They refunded right away, and I still have yet to ship it back.
