Wondering what car is worth?

Hey guys, I'm new here! A quick bit of information: I'm a junior in highschool, super big into classic cars ever since I began working on my first car as a sophomore, a 1967 dodge coronet.

Ever since then, I've been saving up over the summer for another car, and I landed my hands on a 1964 Oldsmobile dynamic 98 convertible. I've been restoring it ever since and I'm thinking about selling it after prom. I was wondering what you guys think it would be worth right now. (hopefully, this is allowed here) Thank you!

Options: Power steering, Power breaks, Power windows (with power wing windows), Power seats, Power top, Power antenna, Seat belt deluxe front, Luggage compartment floor mat, door edge guards, AC (includes oversize tires, heavy-duty engine cooling, and 55 amp generator), Remote control outside mirror, Cruise control, Heavy duty hydra-matic transmission, Tilt away steering column, Headlamp control (guide-matic power), backup lamps, cornering lamps, AM-FM radio, Reverbatone rear radio speaker, Heavy duty frame springs, (maybe soft ray tinted windows option, im not very sure on that one).
Work done:
  • Rebuilt engine brought back to life (past owners rebuilt the engine, dropped it in and then it sat for 20 years. I brought it back to a running state).
  • Carbuerator fully rebuilt and cleaned supersonically
  • Distributor rebuilt
  • Radiator rebuilt
  • New spark plugs and wires
  • New ignition coil
  • New voltage regulator
  • Gas tank cleaned out
  • New battery
  • New power top motor
  • Entire car wiring is in the process of being completely redone with a kit
General info:
  • 30k miles on the original drive train removed and swapped with a rebuilt engine ( i still have original drivetrain)
  • The transmission only has 12k miles (replaced when it blew via factory warranty in the late 60's)
  • ~34k original miles on the odometer
  • very very little rust except for rear QP's. (Original Wisconsin car only driven for 3 winters, never left the state its entire life)

Pictures (sorry they are not very high quality, thank you guys!)

Welcome to the site. It's nice to see young people taking interest in these old boats. As far as giving a value to your car I couldn't based only on your description and a few pictures. Your best bet is to search the internet and compare what's out there.

A few things I noticed in what information you provided are wrong. The car you have is a 'Ninety Eight' model convertible which is top of the line next to the 'Starfire'. Don't know where you got Dynamic 98 from but it's wrong, there is a 'Dynamic Eighty Eight' but they are the low end model. The options you listed would have been on the 98 and there are other differences between the models. There are some real experts on here who might chime in to help figure out what car it is.
I'm a little confused about the engine, The blue valve covers would indicate it belonging to a Dynamic 88, the 98's would have been chrome. I don't believe the 98's came with the counsel bucket seats.
Good luck with your purchase.

If its solid in the frame, body, floors, dash, firewall etc. Its a good restoration candidate for someone (if not you) to restore.
The key is to start out with the most complete rust-free example you can find.
Without seeing it in person I say it's worth ~5000-6000 if it runs drives and stops and most everything works.
Super solid with 99% of its original parts maybe more to someone looking specifically for that car.

Hats off to you for keeping the classic car torch going!

Welcome! Looks like a solid car. I do not know the values on this year and model but I feel like droldsmorland would be real close. Post a picture of the owl tag, that will tell if it is a Ninety Eight or a Dynamic 88. I believe it is a Ninety Eight.

$10-$12k easy for a starting price. It's a convertible that runs!

You mention it has a "heavy duty hydramatic transmission." Did you have it rebuilt? If so do you have any receipts? In 64 the 98 and Starfire at least (maybe the 88s too, I'm not sure) had the Slim Jim Rotohydramatic transmission. I had one in my 64 98 that I rebuilt over 20 years ago. At the time I rebuilt it, there were very few shops around with "old-timers" that could service that transmission. Now, I doubt there are any remaining.

If your car shifts properly make sure you maintain it and drive it. If it doesn't shift properly then get rid of it ASAP! IMHO, the only cars that should keep that transmission are fully restored Starfires. Otherwise, swap it for a TH400, 2004R, 700R4... heck, even a C4 would be better than a Slim Jim. I'm just saying...

5000- 7000 tops if it runs, stops drives. There isn’t much demand for the big cars, convertible is a plus but its still a 98.
