Wishful Thinking?

What a poor excuse for a 442. Not even close to a clone. These guys are dreamers, and the disclaimers say it all.

Everything is wrong with it, it's a Cutlass convertible with the 442 grill bar and a couple of 442 emblems. My god there is so much wrong with that car. The hood is Cutlass, all the trim on the rear is Cutlass, dash instrument cluster is a Cutlass that was equipped with a column shift ST300, so assuming it was born with a 330. I'll assume the buckets and console are transplants.

Throughout the whole description he refers to it as a 442 until the Vin# breakdown then it's Cutlass. The disclaimer in the warranty info is funny, as are the referrals, IE Rev Ted Althouse.

This guy is a thief pure and simple! Quote "The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith."

But all 4-4-2s have Cutlass VINs because the 4-4-2 was an option package.

No, what I'm saying is that is the only place it's referred to as a Cutlass. He's covering his a$$. I assure you, it's a Cutlass.

That's why we need guys like you Eric.
I would have no idea it wasn't the real deal at first glance.
I would make a lot of background checks before spending anything like the asking price and get advice from independent experts, but someone pointing out the obvious might save someone contemplating a car like this wasted time and travel.
If I'd travelled overseas to find I had been mislead I would be mightily pissed off!.

I agree with the title of this thread. It really is a shame. The car actually looks pretty good overall. I love yellow cars, and the '66-'67 bucket seats are my all-time favorite seats. Here is a good one, though---that extra thick radiator must not be too effective, the temp gauge is in the danger zone! I would have preferred to see the car done as "born" and just added the wheels. IMO it is only overpriced by about FORTY THOUSAND!!!

I am not an expert on Cutlass vs 4-4-2 trim and details in these years, but the '71-and-later front seatbelts caught my eye immediately in a car that was allegedly "original."

That's a very odd thing to have changed, and makes you wonder what else was pieced together.

Yes, with the notch for the shoulder strap belt to attach to. I like the sport steering wheel, but believe its a Buick wheel with the Olds emblem swapped in. Appears to be a high end car lot... I hope they don't burn someone on this car

Looks better than most who add 3 "442" emblems then hike the price up %500.

It is a pretty car and looks well done. Too bad a thief is selling it and asking more than twice what it is worth. I hope somebody doesn't get taken on this one. I would like the car at about $25,000.

Yes, there is much wrong with this car that screams "poorly done clone", but to correct some posts in this thread, this is a 1967 Fremont car. ALL 1967 442s carried Cutlass VINs, and since it's a Fremont car, it doesn't have the "5V" on the data plate, so this is about as easy a clone as a 72.

At $20K, maybe. $60K is W-30 and H/O territory. And since it's obviously a fabricated car, one always needs to be wary of what it looked like before the complete rebuild.

Sad to think about it though, I'm sure he has well over 20,000 in it.

I guarantee he has well over 20K in the car. Unfortunately, it's extremely easy to spend way over what the car is worth.

Not that I would ever do that...

If he had taken care of the obvious stuff, correct hood, dash bezel, some black paint on the taillight bezels and trunk trim, and maybe even a set of SSI's , he probably would have had an unknowing person pay close to what he is asking.
OTOH, it may have been bought by this dealer who doesn't do his homework and found out too late.

I noticed the steering wheel, too, but I gave it a pass. Why? You ask? Because I like that style wheel and put one in my '72. Mine is Saddle colored is did start life in a GS. I searched high and low for a perfect one in my color and then added a Saddle Olds horn button. Those wheels came in various GM products; the mounting hub is unique to those wheels also.
