Wire harness

Trying to unplug wire harness on my 64 cutlass from engine at the firewall. Any advice?

First, unpower the system by disconnecting the battery. Then if something’s broken, it won’t arc & short out.

Look carefully at the connector you’re interested in, GM generally had some ways to disconnect individual wires or groups at bulkheads as the case may be.

If you see some plastic with slots and spring loaded tabs, that’s a clue. The electrical connection system GM used in 1964 was called “Packard 56”. Google that and you’ll figure out what you want to know.

Hope that helps,
Chris
