Window Film
Window Film
Hi everyone, ever since I installed my new carpet in my olds i've had this really annoying film on all my windows i can't seem to get rid of. Anyone know how to clean it off? Thanks.
Ammonia and water mix. It will be that way until the vapors in the carpet (binders I believe) dissipate with time. Coca Cola and newspaper works also, especially for road grime but it might get sticky on the inside. Windex with ammonia also should work. Use it in a well ventilated area.
The phenomena is called "outgassing" (no, that's not what happens when you eat a burrito...
). As Trip notes, it is caused by plasticizers in the materials evaporating, particularly in the heat. I've had to resort to lacquer thinner at times to get this film off the glass.
