Will a bucket seat out of 69 grand prix fit in a 68 cutlass?

Like the question above says. The seat came out of a 69 grand prix but has the seat release on the side(like in 68) It is a reclining passenger seat. Are the regular grand prix seats wider than a regular A body bucket seat? Its just a bare steel frame with no cloth or padding so its hard to tell what it originally came out of. Dont know if its original to the car or not. If it is out of a grand prix will 68 cutlass padding, upholstery, and seat back and side plastic fit? I dont want to pass it up if it`ll work due to the rarity of it,but dont need it if Its unuseable. Anyone have any measurements or anything I could check to verify it`ll work? Thanks.

The 1969 should have had the release on the center of the back. I believe that is a 1968 seat if the side panels and back are plastic, in 1967 they looked the same but would have been metal. I pulled a set of buckets out of a 1971 Grand Prix and they were identical to the 69-72 Cutlass/442 with the exception of the stitching on the covers. If nobody else comes up with some measurements I'll try to get them for you this weekend.

Also... if the price is right that might be a nice item for trade stock even if you decide not to use it in your car. John

I read somewhere ,probaly on this site that the reclining seat in 69 had the release button on the side like in 68.Anyway I ended up buying another reclining seat off of e bay with a headrest. The other seat I was looking at was on 442.com and was high dollar considering it was basicly just a shell ,and the fact that it was out of a 69 grand prix made me unsure as to if it would work in my application.(68 442) A bargain ,no,but a nice rare option that you dont see very often. So if anyone has too much money and wants a reclining passenger seat there is one at 442.com in the parts for sale section.

As noted, the 69-72 GP and 70-72 Monte Carlos are A-body cars and have common architecture with the 68-72 Cutlii. Yes, the seats fit - the frames and tracks are the same.

Thank you for the information. This may help someone in the future looking for bucket seats knowing about the grand prix/mote carlo(69-72) seats being the same as a bodies.

68 releases on on the side 69 are in the upper center of the rear of the seats.

Correct, but that doesn't affect the fit or function of those seats in a 68.

Thats correct for the standard buckets, however the 69's with the recliner option used the side release button like the 68's.

Henry.

By the way the parts from the recliner seat can be removed and transfered to a non recliner seat.
