If you spend much time here you'll get the hang of it. I rarely get a window that I don't want and that may just be I don't pause the mouse over the ads I'm not interested in. John

I surf with Firefox with the AdBlocker Plus plug-in....and I never see any ads at all. I never realize what I'm missing until a post like this comes up, so just out of curiosity I temporarily turn off the AdBlocker...only to be reminded why I have it in the first place.

This is a company owned website owned by IB. It's sole source of income is the ads. Moving your mouse over a word with green underlining will pop up a small ad window (with something unrelated to Classic Olds...) Be sure you are interested in what that window has on it before clickin on it!! Clicking on that ad window may produce unwanted behavior beyond the contol of IB. Some ads are decent, many are for junk sites. Just be careful what you click on or mouse over.

Remember, also, that those underlined words get that way outside of the control of the person doing the posting. I've once in a while seen someone accuse the person doing the posting of trying to sneak a little advertising in.

The site apparently looks for key words in posts and makes a link out of them for advertising purposes. It's what pays for the site so that it's otherwise free to use.

I don't get how the whole transfer to IB works... would they not have their own mods/admins for the Forums? In that case, do yall work for IB, and/or contact IB to become a mod?

Also, I know this is not a good question to ask b/c it against the Google Adsense policy to give out specific stats (ie clicks/pageviews, etc.)... but can anyone give me a 'rough' idea how much this site made on average monthly for Adsense ads 'before' and 'after' going to IB? I am very curious. thx

When I got involved it was the other Mods here asking for help. They saw that I and several others spent a lot of time here and asked if we'd be willing to help out. I don't think any of the Mods are involved with the owners of the site, as it seems like someone else owned it when I got involved. I don't think the owners are "Oldsmobile" people per sey, but I'm glad they provide this forum for us to enjoy. If they make a buck along the way I don't mind. Without somebody selling ads and paying for the server space (or whatever is the right 'puter term for it) we wouldn't be here. That's my thoughts anyway.

thx.

Still unclear to me though... the only way someone can be added as a Mod is by the Admin acct IIRC... so that means the Admin acct has total control over the forums... which has to mean that the Admin has to work for IB in some way. That is the only thing that makes sense. Otherwise... it means IB has no control over anything.

I am just curious is all how it works b/c I have a site (no forums though - yet) in one of their niches, and running Adsense/CJ, etc. ads, and I see they own a 'competitor' site to mine.

Yep. This is why I sometimes spell things wrong intentionally, particularly in my signature.

Thus depriving the site owners of potential revenue.
