wheel dollies.jpg Was looking for a set of solid dollies, found these built out of angle iron and casters from surplus center for four bucks a caster. Wheels are 1 13/16" wide hold 700#. Sides are 12" and crossbars are 12" or ? https://www.surpluscenter.com/Wheels...ter-1-1195.axd

Harbor Freight has a nice looking set that hold 1000# each, will hold up to a 12" wide tire. Lifetime Guarentee. Ive had 4 of them under my 70 SX for 10 years or so, no issues

Read a lot of reviews, many different brands, not good on the ones harbor freight sells now.

That sucks to hear, hate when a company cheapens a product after its been around for a while.

Did you check Summit.

Remember, the larger the tire, the easier the skates will roll when loaded

Heres a set of 4, hold 1500lbs, 149.99 for 4

The dollies from HF work fine if you go in one direction only, but the little wheels don't want to pivot when you want to change direction. Pretty typical for HF merchandise, you get what you pay for. This is the kind that I bought.

HF Dollies

I bought the HF set pictured below about two years ago. I had not heard great things about HF dollies either but I bought them anyway. I use them under my 70 442 convertible - not exactly a light car - and they work great. In fact, they roll so easy that you have to be pretty careful with them. They are not cheap at the regular price of about $89 each nut if you watch the HF ads they do go sale pretty regularly. I highly recommend them and would absolutely buy them again.

Will check out other units suggested, like the ability of one dolly to be able to support 2,800#, seems like it would roll easier and over concrete joints.

I have a set of four of those too. They work fine for what I need. I'm able to move whatever car I place on them, by myself, to anywhere I need in the shop. I only use them maybe once or twice a year. No problems.

These ones lift themselves, no jack needed to place them, right? Awesome convenience.

I have a couple sets (8 units) I bought from Canadian Tire and they have been generally ok BUT...I had a '77 Cutlass Supreme with the V8 260 sitting on a set and the front two basically collapsed. Nothing sudden that I saw, just went to move the car one day and realized it wasn't going anywhere.

I'd like to buy a set like rand5204's. Although I still use the CT ones, most of them are acting as part of a redneck engine storage stand for my 455s :-D

I have had good luck with the dollies pictured in the post by RANDYS... I have quite easily moved vehicles up to 3800 pounds by myself with very little effort...

I must not be holding my mouth right............. I find it really hard to get it moving, and hard to change direction.

One trick I learned with anything on casters, before using them, lubricate all the moving and pivoting parts with engine oil so that they will not bind when trying to change direction, even furniture dollies. Especially the ones with rubber wheels as you have rubber rubbing on metal and they will bind up.

I also have 3 sets of the HF as in Rand post#they work perfectly. And as 425' just stated I greased them up completely before assembly, had for 3-4 years now, and the cars basically float around with push of a finger. Look for the 25% off coupons in the local papers or join their 'club' and once or twice a year they put them on sale...and approach the manager to talk them into letting you get 4 at same price, got mine for 59.99 each that way!
