Car Dollies

Any one have any experience with car dollies? I'm looking for reccomendations on what type/brand to buy. I have heard that many of them don't work very well and the car can be very difficult to move around once the weight is on them. Seems like that would pretty much defeat the purpose! Any input would be appreciated.

I bought a set of dollies from Princess Auto last fall. Brand is 'powerfist' but you can get them from most any auto shops.

They are WORTH THEIR WEIGHT IN GOLD. Especially when you want to move the car around without starting it. Mine will hold 1000 lbs each and have steel casters. I had to assemble them; it took about 45 minutes. Here's the link: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...tml#post342043 They cost me around 59.00 / set of 2 on sale. Normal price was around 90.00/set.

Far as moving the car? Like anything that you put weight on, the weight determines how easy it will be to move around. I had NO trouble moving the car around on dollies by myself. Would it be easier with 2 people? Yup but not really necessary. Helps to have a smooth floor garage too.

The go jacks are slick. You roll them in to position front and rear of tire. Flip the up down lever and then step on the "foot feed" a half dozen or so times. The rollers move closer together an inch or so each click. To lower the car flip the switch and step on the "foot feed" until the car is back on the ground.

I have these and they work fine on a level concrete floor. I'm pretty sure you get two for $50

Wha ??

These ?
http://www.harborfreight.com/2-piece...ies-67511.html

They look the same as the Tractor Supply ones above.

I have them and they work great. Not only for using on the wheels, but I used mine for rolling heavy things like the engine/trans, rearend, fridge, etc.. around the garage...

The only prob I see would be if you had huge/wide tires....

Oh, and if you want a good (but long) slightly related 'man fights injustice' story....Google 'Dolly Man' !

Those ones at harbour freight are the same as mine. I just measured the distance between the 2 side rails. As long as your rubber is less than 14 1/4" in width you'll be just fine. That's a heck of a good price match they just put up.

Yep those! Terrible, and my floor is good, clean.
Had to use every trick in the book to straighten out the wheels and they still wouldn't roll worth a darn.
Maybe it was just my set?
Glad yours work good. I hate mine.

You're not the only one. It took 3 of us to move my car around in the garage with these. I had to turn each wheel on each dolly with a pry bar in order to go in any direction.

I'm hoping with the addition I'm currently putting on my garage, I'll never have to use them again.

I've been looking for a similar make and model but haven't been lucky enough yet. Don't know how the wife would feel about it though

If I keep it out in the garage maybe she'll never know

i bought one set from HF..the caster exploded after 3 times of moving..and i could barely move a car by myself, and it was a struggle..

i have go jacks, they are expensive..but i will never have to buy another set..they are lifetime tools...

They are usable, but just barely. Hardly worth the scrap price you'd get for'em!

I use these as I like the design better.
Great for moving cars around in the garage.
I'd love to buy another 4 for my other vehicle.
Saves moving the car back and forth to remove yard gear, takes away the need to start the car needlessly for just a minute.
