Whats the strangest thing you found in your Oldsmobile
Whats the strangest thing you found in your Oldsmobile
This was a fun topic I found at another site and it revealed some great stuff. Everything from original parts left in the trunk to bullet casings to pay stubs from assemblers, coins, tools found behind the kick panels or under the carpeting. Let's hear what you've found.
Registration card from previous owner behind the glove box. Contact of theat person was unsuccessful.
30*6 shell, service claim tag, and crayons under the carpet.

Broadcast sheet was under there, too, but in tattered shape.
A pair of ladies satin pajama pants under the front seat. Looks like someone was caught with her pants down!
At least they were a brown color that matched the carpet almost perfectly...
I also found a dime in the heater case that might have been dropped by an assembler, or maybe was inserted through the vents by a child. Date was 1968...

I didn't really find much in this car when i got it since the front seats and carpet were missing.
- A folded up page from a map dated 1973 placed between the dash pad and metal ... probably to eliminate a rattle.
- Prior owner registration cards dating back to the late '70s (naturally, i hunted both of these people down and got some interesting history about the car
)
- A plastic cup and a couple of screwdrivers inside/ behind the left rear quarter accessed from the door jamb vent hole.

The trunk of mine was full of garbage. Plastic bags, a shirt, other unidentifiable pieces of fabric, many .22 shells, some 9mms, old AC belt, old PS hoses, old steering column shaft, funnels and tons of receipts.
Inside wasn't so bad. The glove box had some old maps of my town, and some random interior *****, screws/clips and many years of vehicle registration papers. I was happy to find the owners manual in there in excellent condition! Also found cardboard pieces shoved in next to the vents, maybe to keep them aimed properly, but I removed them and they work just fine...
Under the hood I found tons of leaves, and under the air cleaner, around the carburetor, I found what appeared to be a cooked family of spiders, oh, and a mess of incorrectly routed and plugged vacuum lines.

I found an extra set of keys under the carpet on a car once, likely there from the factory. I have a damaged OAI hood from a Rallye 350. Years ago I started working on it and removed the air box from under the hood skin. There was a cartoon drawing of a rabbit on the inside! Someone on the assembly line was an aspiring artist
. I know I took a picture of that and will try to find it to share. John

Not from my cars but a friend found two sticks of dynamite in a Mustang he imported from Arizona, this after the car had cleared customs both sides of the Atlantic ocean. This made the tv news.
Another friend working for a British Leyland dealership told me of a new car plagued with a mystery rattle. In the end they cut open the sill (rocker panel?) and found a bottle with a note in it reading "bet it took you a long time to find this", hardly surprising the company went to the wall.
Roger.

We bought the Silver Bullet from the son of a farmer that had passed on.
The interior was just covered with dust/dirt/grime. Of course, asked the son "Why"? He said, "Daddy got to where he couldn't push the clutch in on the C***y pick-em-up-truck, so he just threw the hay bales and cattle feed in the back of the wagon and drove out into the fields to feed the cattle". Also asked the son if his Dad had a problem with the bottle, as it was covered with dents here and there. "Nope, he just couldn't see" was the reply!

My car (a convertible without a top) was up on jack stands for over 15 years in my back yard and it must have had at least 60 wasp's nests in the body, behind the dash, etc. But what really blew my mind was when I put the frame on a rotisserie and started sandblasting it I blew a bird's nest out of the boxed portion of the frame.
I had an old box 89 caprice the trunk of that thing was like a time capsule, man! Had a record player, an old word processor, an old calculator (with the little red lights) I forget what else but man that was kinda neat seeing all that ancient stuff in there lol! Also when I had my '76 Vw Westy Bus project I found some weed crumbs in a few places, the signs of a true hippie van lol i miss that old thing
During the resto last year found an un fired shot gun shell down inside the passenger front fender. Apparently they used to hunt in these convertibles driving down the side roads, drinking beer with the top down and the dog was the only one to get out to get the game lol. Wonder who was wiping the dogs feet when he got back in.
My body shop polished up the shell and now sometimes at a car show I stick it on the breather just for the conversations.
Driving, drinking and shooting you got to love it.

Had bags of clothes in the trunk of the Omega. Turns out the womans cloths were my wifes size and she washed up a couple of the items and was very happy. My son was excited about a Seattle Sonics t-shirt.
I was just glad it was clothes and not a body.
(trunk lock was inop)
Speaking of Olds assy. line hi-jinks. My ex Bro in law worked at a Seattle Olds dealer years back as a tech and found a pop bottle in the door panel with a note. "ha ha ya found it"
Customer complained of a rattle.

Not an Olds story, but how about finding a loaded Glock under the seat of a 911? Car was from Miami, what are the odds?

A "friend" of mine, yeah, that's it, found a loaded semi auto pistol in the passenger headlight area in a '77 Delta 88 in a junkyard. Of course he dropped it in his pocket & took it home & he had a police friend check the serial number & surprise surprise, the gun came back stolen. So my "friend" had to give up the gun.
While trollling a yard in Vegas several years ago, I found a large "toy" in a glove box of a late 60's Pontiac. It looked like it had been well used & needless to say I didn't touch it.

I hauled a beat down 65 442 home from Tennessee a few years ago. Got it home and popped the trunk and found two mint and I mean mint front park lights for it.
My dad has a real 1932 Ford roadster and he found a 1943 steel penny on top of the frame.

i forgot about this one when i made my first post. the last car i brought home was a 70 cutlass. there was no key for the trunk. the guy i got it from said what ever was in there would just be a bonus for me. after i got it home i found a complete 3/4 inch socket set in there.
I pulled up the carpet on my '61 and found the painted outline of the lower inside windshield trim. They must have laid them on the floor and painted them as the car moved down the assembly line:

Found two mice in my car as I was restoring it, looked like one crawled into the headliner area and the other one followed it and the second one must have gotten stuck. At least they didn't die alone, haha.

Back on topic, I found the original "thank you for purchasing your new 1965 Oldsmobile" letter from the salesman/dealer in the glove box of my Dynamic along with a Jesus cross statue in the defroster duct work (circa late 60's early 70's)

Way back in '69, I remember, I found my ex-wife with my best friend in the back seat of my '67 Delta 88. Thank The Lord, I'm gettin' out of this freakin' hell-hole in a few more years.

My son and I were tearing down the 69 found a pair of panties under the seat, got the 71 and while tearing it down found another pair of panties under the seat. My son gave me a look like he wanted to say it so I said it for him, "yes son your going to get lot's of *** in this car too".
A few months back I wrote that I found a bag of unopened plastic army men.
They were american GI's and German. Just like I use to get as a kid. I had them looked at by a collector and he noted from the stock # they were from the early 60's.
It was a complete set including tanks and fox holes. I soo wanted to open it!! I have put them away and will give them to my grandchildren. OH yes current value unopened @ 200.00 bucks.

That's rich!
Nothing too spectacular....
- An awl in the rain gutter
- Various docs/receipts/business cards back to the '70's.
- Flakes of what had been the build sheet
- A pink cassette tape of Led Zeppelin II !

My 1970 98 was purchased in Colorado, sold to a guy in Southern California, then allegedly purchased by a cop, and then by the guy I bought it from. I found a pair of LAPD sunglasses in a carpet fold under the seat, which confirmed the cop story.
