i know every1 has there own taste im just curious what 68-70 olds is worth the most and most wanted, ive allways wanted a 70 442 w30 convert and a sx455 w32 convert, i just got offered almost 3 times what i paid 4 my 70 sx455 and im thinking about selling it 2 buy something else, what other 68-70 olds should i look at b4 i sell???

 

Rare meaning there weren't many made?....
I purchased new, and owned for 35 years, A 1970 Cutlass "S" post coupe with W-31 option.....a 4 speed car with 3.42 rear gear........Now there were only 116 Cutlass "S" post coupe W-31's built.....rare yes........worth what a W-30 is no,,,not even close, let alone a W-30 4 speed convertible

bob is your sx455 a w32?? and if so what do you think the chances are of me finding a sx455 w32 with papers and all its parts for a fair price?? i got a great deal on my sx455 convert i paid 8200 complete in beautiful condition from a speed shop owner who needed 25k 2 convert his shop into a speed/smog shop

How about a 1970 w-33 two door delta 88 390 factory HP ? Check out mine, It is for sale.

 

I would think a unique B/C body in good condition would be more rare than a unique A body. Even though it might be more rare it probably wouldn't fetch as high a price.

Of course, I'm biased.

 

If I knew how to convert my 1970 Cutlass S / 442 clone into a 1969 body style, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Personally I think the Convertible is the most desirable of all time, but the hardtop is #2.

Then I'd send it off to paint it as a Hurst / Olds. I think it's the coolest car Olds has EVER made.
Everyone knows this car......and most people remember Ms Hurst Linda Vaughn's huge assets as well.
Most desirable cars, most desirable knockers.

 

Rarest factory built car between 1968-1970 has to be the 25 1969 W-32 convertibles (or the 25 1969 W-32 Sport Coupes, but I'd bet the convertible would be worth more!).

I'll bet a factory 4 speed Vista Cruiser would be pretty rare, too.

 

If you didn't limit it to '68-'70 this Olds would be my choice.

Mine came from West [by God] Virginia with snow tires Frame off restored and is a PITA to keep at the level I would like. Everytime I look at the thing, I see something not right. IMHO, I'd rather have a survivor that a fully restored one. [20/20 hinesight]

I was limiting my response to factory-built cars. Showcars and one-offs are a whole different thing. There's the 1969 Apollo 442 show car, for example. There's the 1968 Hurst/Olds convertible (gold, no less). There's the rumored factory-built 1970 442 with the W-43 motor.

I would go for a 70 W-30 hardtop, any color. Not to go against the grain here, but I'm not really a fan of the "one-color scheme" cars, like 1968-1969 Hurst/Olds, etc. They're beautiful cars, but when you go to a show that features those cars, I tend to walk right by them. They all look the same, and are somewhat boring.

But a 70 W-30, in any color, is something that makes my heart jump. When I see one, I'm immediately running through the 1970 Olds color palette trying to identify the color, you don't know whether it will have a W-27 rear, what color interior it will have, whether it's a 4-speed or auto, etc.

Variety is the spice of life.

With a 68-69 Hurst/Olds, weel, they're about as exciting as seeing a row of Buick Grand Nationals at a show. All black, all the same interior, all automatics. Boring....

I love the 68-69 H/O's, but if you're looking for something different, something that will draw attention not only at an Olds Show, but at a general car show or cruise night, I'd go for a 70 W-30.

Make mine Twilight Blue with a blue interior, and a 4-speed.

LOL!!!!! i was stuck on grand nationals for 8 years ive owner 4 three 87's one 86, i sold my last 87GN 3-4 years ago and bought my sx and a 71 convert!! i still love nationals but there 2 hard 2 keep up i dont remember the last time i gave my sx a tune up and it sill runs hard!! i had 2 have my GN's air/fuel/timing adjusted once a month 2 keep from detonating but 10s with street tires was fun!!!!

i do like w30's!!! but hurst's are bad *** too!! the guy who wants 2 buy my sx came by yesterday and dropped the cash offer a little but said he'll throw in a 2004 civic so that pushes the over all offer up, its still less than i think its worth but its almost 3 times what i paid

 

That FWD muscle car is cool. I think I prefer the Toronado body though. It was definitely classy in the late 60s!

 

I agree. An incredible piece of history. A one-of-one car built for George Hurst himself, its value (historic, monetary, or otherwise) is inestimable.

I know this an old thread, but I just ran across it, reminiscing about my 68. I wanted to let you guys know about the 1968 Hurst Olds 442 I bought when I was 19 back in 1978. The car was black with emblems. It had a 455ci engine, 4 speed transmission. Interior the seats where white and front seat was a bench seat, and if remembering correctly was split on top to fold down separate. I bought this car for $1000 back then. I owned it for 2 years. I truly wish I would have kept it. I had no idea how rare the car was. I bought it off of my best friend’s friend at the time. I remember the Hurst shifter fell apart as I drove it home. I was bummed, but what could I say for only paying $1000 for it. It was all original and in excellent condition otherwise. It did have headers, so that might have been the only thing changed. I had LOADS of fun racing around with that car in my youth. Oh well, distant memories now. I just wanted to sound off to let you all know that there was also a black 1968 H/O with a four speed. I know that the person that bought it took the engine out. “It was too fast for him”… what a dumb ***.

Just ran across this post... We currently are starting the restore of Jim Waibel (my dads) 1969 w31 convertible 4 speed.. Smothers brothers car... from what were can tell that combo is pretty rare

 

Any 1970 W30 4 speed with a W27 rear specifically a convertible. Not the rarest of all Oldsmobiles but def have all the options we could ask for and bring in the big bucks. Just my opinion. Even though I dont have a vert :-(

 

ran across this old thread and wondered if time has changed opinions on this
subject. I personally would still believe any hurst olds pre 80's is my choice.
