Which one floats your boat better? If numbers-matching is important to you, then you already know. But if it's not, which makes you want to jump behind its wheel and take a ride more than the other. That's your answer.
but the car is pretty unique being a D99 and no options.
The W-30 has all the options.
id actually be happy with either honestly.
i like all the options on the red car, the hood
gauges P P-seat & red pops pretty good too.
but in the long run, I definitely want it to be an investment car too. I would say that equally valued even with a period correct block.
I want either one to have some value.
they both have some paperwork
oth Owner by the previous Owner 20+
So, in that case, the cars perform the same and OP should take whichever one he likes more. Investment value difference is negligible.
As a owner of many many classic muscle cars over the years I have yet to own one that I considered an investment, even after myself doing the lions share of the work I have yet to make money on one of my personal cars..always took a hit on them actually, but it’s my hobby.. nobody gives you a rebate on your bowling lane and rental shoes etc..hobbies cost money... Now I have bought and flipped many cars for a profit but that’s a different story.
When it comes to W30s the engine is everything. A period correct replacement could be a low compression 2bbl 455... that has been dolled up to blend.
Which to me brings its value down to just 442 level. Now a replacement engine from an otherwise wrecked W30 with paperwork proof brings its value back up. Even if the numbers can never match.
In this case it's a tough call. As the pricing is right between the two.
Guess it depends on the type of person you are. If authenticity on such a high value purchase is a must. Go with the 442. As the wrong engine with the W30 will likely always be a irksome situation.

Hey Johnny nice finds again
I prefer the Black car with white painted roof, which is probably a rare combination
car seems to look nice. For me it would not be a question.
Matching engine on a W-30 is important as pointed out. As far as an investment, fewer and fewer people want these cars as the years pass. Most of those under the age of 30 do not have last century's muscle cars as their top choice for a Sunday ride.
