About this time i was gifted a 53-54 ish IH truck it had the horitzontal grill not the vertical one maybe a r-110 or l-110 .. my dad sold it while i was out of town...
That is reason enough to give your parent the stink-eye 🤨 for a good long while...
Harvester pickups ain't easy to find. Most were working trucks and just got used up. Tough sombiches though.
In 1974 I am driving down the highway. I pass an Oldsmobile dealership. Parked out front is a 1969 Hurst/Olds. I ask how much they want for it. They say that it belongs to this guy. I ask him if he wants to sell it. He says that the dealer is giving him 1000 for it as trade in. I buy it from him for $1000. I go to the DMV to register it. They ask me if I want new tags or transfer the old ones. I say, whatever is cheaper. I had a ford pickup with commercial tags on it. So now I have a 1969 H/O with commercial tags. Then the gas shortage hits. Gas limit of only $2 of gas every other day. Unless you have commercial tags there are no limits, any day or amount. Thank you DMV. One of the many, why did I ever sell it cars that I had.
1st car - 1970 Nova
2nd car - 1967 GTO
3rd car - 1968 Biscayne
4th car - 1965 Biscayne
5th car - 1973 Chevelle 6th car - 1979 Cutlass Calais, and I still have it (purchased 1984)
7th car - 1991 Cutlass Calais SL purchased new 8th car - 1994 Cutlass Supreme SL, purchased new and I still have it
So I'm 68 years old now and I still have the 6th & 8th car, not bad. I skipped the 80's, I've never owned a car that was made 1980-1989.
My Dad had a car dealership when I was a kid so I had a a few that were going to be my first, but the actual first was a 72 U code Supreme. Buckets, console, AM/FM Stereo, A/C, factory cruise. We ended up putting new fenders on it that I bought at Cunningham Oldsmobile for $200 each and painted it white. I added all sorts of options when you could still find them in the junkyard; tilt, sport wheel, 8 track, power driver seat, trunk release, Rally Pac, Dual Gate, 70 Sport Mirrors, hood lock. Would love to have another one but I just can't seem to find one for the same $1,500 that one cost😅 Second car was a 1987 Grand National. Sad that both of those cars are priced into the stratosphere and I'll most likely never have either one again.😢
First car was a 72 Cutlass back in 1981, then in 84 I bought a 1 year old 1983 Cutlass Calais that was loaded including the common leaky T Top roof option.
I sold them both eventually and dreamed of another as I was hooked on Oldsmobile, It took until 2000 before I found a convertible, stick shift 442 that I had always wanted.
I paid $2500 for it. Here it is today....
