Just a scratch

 

I bought 4 Rallye 350 parts cars in the last 2 or so years & 3 of them looked about like that. Those three are now gone but one of them actually is being restored as we type.

 

That is sad. I hate seeing cars like that.

 

Agreed. It's sad to see a car of that stature end up like that.

my generation has probably cut up half of the original production run to restore or clone w-30s over the years..most people i know feel that ralley's are part cars for the good cars....and to be honest i felt that way for years too....but things change and as they become scarce i have personally given them more respect

 

I want a Rallye and all I see is them going to hades

 

I agree Mark, I am old enough to remember these rolling around when new, and saw them evaporate over the years, probably for the same reasons they had the reported issues with initial sales, the color etc...But I appreciate what they were and still are, another outgrowth of the 'old days' market. The entry level performance/image car.

I like them all. I would have said the same thing if it were just a Cutlass S.

 

Had one for 24 years and still love these cars. Don't think i will ever want another one but I will always love the memories I have with mine. Most Rallye 350 become parts cars becuse the final value of restoring one is just not worth it. You have to find a solid one to justify the final price of the restore.

 

I'm texting back and forth with the guy. If I get a chance I might go look at it. I see two very valuable parts on it but I think the guy knows they are.

Unfortunately too true. I had a couple over the years and one I used as a summer driver. It was a fun car., but it takes just about as much money to restore one as it does a similar W-30, but for the drivetrain.

It always puts a smile on my face when someone restores one as a labor of love and goes the extra mile regardless of the time and money needed.

 

He told me he has a guy from NJ coming to look at it tomorrow for the motor (it's frozen) and breather assembly...............$1400

 

Some day i will have a Rallye dammit!

 

For that kind of bling I would part with my froze up Rallye L74 engine geeze

 

It is sad to see so many Rallye's being parted out I have owned two of them and IMO they are a cool looking car!

 

I would imagine many were lost early on BECOMING W-30s WITH the drivetrains, too, plus clones, pro-streets and who-knows-what-else.

Big-Block-itis still has no known cure, but at least we ARE learning to better-protect ourselves and our loved ones...

I looked at one (actually looked it over twice) pretty seriously that was almost exactly how I want one---post, stick, low options---but the owner and I differ on our opinions of what we think it is worth. Realistically, it needs to be done again, and starting over at HIS price won't work; starting over at MY price will be a whole lot closer.

The Rallye 350 is not for everyone. I like the yellow paint job & stripes but think they went too far with the yellow theme by making the bumpers & rims yellow. Personally I think these cars would look better & would have sold in greater numbers had the SS1 & or the argent SS11 rims been available. If I ever buy a Rallye 350 that is how it will roll.

He's dropped the price $9000. since he listed it. He started out at $32,000.

 

Actually, I can buy it for considerably less than that price. The problem is that it is needs to be stripped and painted, new decals, bumpers stripped and redone, go through trans. and rear, etc., etc.,

 

I always say pics can be deceiving, and they really must be in this case!

 

So the problem is it's a $6500 car.........


I always tell people you're better off buying a basket case that's complete than a nice driver with a couple of rust bubbles

Mike, it is not a $6500.00 car OR a $20something car. Your philosophy on basket cases raises a VERY valid point. If a car needs everything, as long as it is all there, financially you'd be better buying the basket case. The Rallye in PA has been done nearly 20 years and it shows (in person). That car looks like a movie star in photos, but not (to me) close up.
Just think of: patches, cracks, wrong year parts, aftermarket parts (some of which I'm not opposed to) and you get the idea. The seller is a very nice guy and is well aware of the downfalls, I think he is trying to recoup his investment from 11 years of ownership (and maybe not figuring in the 11 years of wear and tear).

 

About 3 or 4 years ago there was a Rallye on Boston CL. Rusty but a complete car. Everyone was trashing it because it needed a complete resto and they were asking $6500 for it. I remember thinking as least it's complete (I bought a TRUE basketcase and spent years tracking down parts). It was bought by a guy on ROP. I don't know what he paid for it but apparently it's restored now. He never posted anything about the restoration but I saw a pic of it next to an 84 he's restoring now. I'd love to do a Rallye, they're my favorite next to 68's, but I never do one from anywhere that's in the rust belt again.
