What I've been doing in my spare time...
My SBO circle track project is on hold right now.
I leased an old fairgrounds horse track (used for snowmobiles the last five years) and am going to run a weekly stock car racing program this summer. Our opener is just ten days away... a late start due to bad weather and 18" of ice on the track has us scrambling to be ready.
Here's a few pix...

More pix... our "new" water truck... moving a section of bleachers to the pit area... taking down the old 5' fence in front of the grandstand and stretching the new pit fence.

Watching the dirt track racing brings back a lot of memories. I used to do it in the early 2000s. It was a lot of fun, but got too expensive after awhile.
If you wanna keep the audience, don't pave it. The track I used to race was dirt and the owner made so much money he decided to pave, figuring he'd bring in bigger crowds and just the opposite happened. The races were boring for the crowd when the track was paved. People want to see the crashes and roll overs on the dirt track.

You'll have to post more race videos in the future.
A friend of mine and fellow racer used to put a video camera in his car while we were racing. He once flipped his car on it's roof with the camera rolling. It was funny to hear him panic by saying "is anyone coming to help me!?"

Man that is true seat of the pants racing. I love it. It is places like this that a lot of guys got their start. Thanks for sharing this with us. This is such a break from all these pristine cars we see all the time. Keep it up.
Today was a pretty wet day but we did manage to set about 60 2x2x6 concrete blocks in place which we are using for retaining walls in front of the bleacher seats next to the grandstand and behind the pit fence. At 3800 lbs each helping to swing them into place while at the end of a 3/8" chain hooked to a CAT track hoe wore out my old outta shape torso... I was happy to see that project end today. We do have another 60 or so to install this weekend but i should have some younger help available to take te brunt of the punishment.
The snowmobile club that runs the "Ice Wars" snowmobile race at the track in January has asked us to keep the pit wall barriers behind the pit fence 'cuz the concrete is a little hard on the riders who may exit their sleds at 90 mph in turns 3 and 4... I can agree with that.
I'll have a few more pix later this week...
