Perhaps someone with an ebay account needs to hit that "report this item" link at the bottom, as something sounds hokey about selling a vin tag like that.
Maybe he should just say right out - "Just add this tag to your stolen car and its legal again!"
Sad...

Illegal and immoral. He has been reported, and I'm sure you will see the ad dropped.

Maybe he will just get a new user name and try it again - if so, lets nail him again! Wonder if he does this with other makes / models?

wow great job!!

first to be clear he did not even have a clear title, just the vin, tag, protecto plate etc, if he had the title he wouldn't be parting it out, he'd be selling it as a genuine level 2 , very restorable classic, big money in the waiting kinda car LOL, something is very very fishy, maybe he just pulled it outta the field??? all this stuff was in the trunk? anyway there are numerous guys that i have seen do this with the title too!!!

I was just venting yesterday and thinking about that whole swap the body thread, with the guy who had a legit 442, then I saw this bastid, and when I rant in the house my wife just doesn't understand why I get so angry..

you gents put a big smile on my face well done fellas... maybe we should keep an eye on fleabay and advise them that switching vins is a crime and they could be aiding and abetting...

what if this had the title and some bastid stole a MINT 442 and did the swap???

maybe they won't allow this type of listing ever again?

As real car enthusiasts I think it is our job to try to have these guys reported at every opportunity. selling VIN's is very illeagal not to mention sleazy. Good job to the guys who are finding and reporting these. I will do the same if I find any on Ebay. These could be bought by the thieves that stole the 442 earlier for example

I think a way they are trying to get around it is to not mention the word vin or the word tag but post an auction for a "firewall" or "cowl" depending upon make of the car and show a photo which coincidentally has a vin tag in it. I saw an auction for a MOPAR that way about a year ago. Deceitful and morally wrong to do that in my opinion.

It's definitely illegal and definitely should be reported, so thanks to those for that.

On a side note, however, is there really a market for tags for a '71 Cutlass with a 350? I guess if someone had a body that had it's tags removed it might be of some use. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense for this seller to subject himself to litigation. There's some real idiots out there.

Here is my view of selling VINs and cowl tags, as mentioned above:
