Not being critical. It's just that I don't understand yellow (amber) high beams. Is it an appearance item or does it have a practical purpose?
When I was a young guy (a long time ago) that color was widely believed to enhance visibility in fog and lights of that color were called fog lights but were an addition to low and high beam factory headlamps. Fog lights were usually mounted on front bumper with a bracket and aimed low.
I like the appearance of the blacked out grille panels.

I spent just under two weeks stripping the motor down to the block, cleaning it, removing the exhaust manifolds, blasting them and painting them with Eastwood manifold paint, touching up all the black (power steering , fan pulleys, fan, firewall, etc). I'd rather do this in the winter but I have a one car garage that my wife gets in the winter with her car so I need to do it now
I upgraded the ignition to a FAST pointless ignition system (with Rev limiter) , new coil, new wires, and a clean loom system from Taylor. New polished valve covers from Andy Tantes. New pos and neg battery cables.
I threw the motor together seven years ago after I restored it because I just wanted to drive it but was always a little embarrassed to open the hood, not anymore.

Back in the 80's the amber bumper mounted fog lights were very popular. Amber headlamps were big in Europe (France?) at one time.
I think they look good and it's something easy to change if you get tired of them.
Not sure if they would pass state inspection here in NY.
I thought about it.....I drive it on a Sunday morning, enjoy it, sometimes I need to fix it, I put some money into it, and then I see 70 convertibles for sale, and I want a convertible, so I ask myself, why do I keep my 70 hard top, and put more money into it, but instead just sell it ...and get that convertible...

Thank you. So, the big change will be I just acquired a complete (aside from the door panels) original 1961 Starfire interior. Console, bucket seats and back seat so I'll be installing those very soon and I'll probably start a separate thread. I've been in the garage cleaning it and its all in really good shape and in the correct maroon color.
So...the only pieces I'm lacking at this point are the correct 61 Starfire door panels, the Starfire dash emblem and the linkage for the floor shifter. If anyone can help me with these pieces it would be much appreciated. I'm hoping to pretty much make a one of none 61 Starfire Holiday Hardtop out of my car and the interior is a major piece!
I finished scraping the undercoating off of the bottom of the '62 Starfire convertible. Now I'll wipe it down with laquer thinner and spray with XXXX.
What a job, but it looks so good and new. I hate to cover it back up again with sound deadening.

I put the Walker Super Turbos on the wagon to get it ready for more cruising . Might get insurance tomorrow. Cruised a few miles each way along I 45
Today I attempted this. Pulled the 350 which went well then wedged the 455 in but it wouldn't line up to the cross member plates. Took them off my 442 chassis so I know they are correct & I marked the left one. Can't remember where I got the mounts from maybe they are wrong. It's missing by about an inch.
I hate to cover it back up again with sound deadening.

My advice , don't .
Undercoating , after it gets 8 to 10 years old or so , starts to get hard and brittle . It tends to peel away from the metal and PROMOTE rust .
According to an "old " friend who worked at Fisher Body in Lansing . The bodies, after being welded together , were completely submerged in red primer .
After they dried , they were sanded on the top surfaces , that showed . and then they went to the paint booths.
I don't what xxxxx is . But my choice would have been a good acrylic primer in "rotten apple red ".
I would not put any more "undercoat " on it .
Use Dynamat under the carpet for sound deadening .

I've been chasing a series of electrical problems that have been causing a heavy interment miss in the 55. First new points and condenser were replaced and that took most of the miss away (they were really pitted) but not all of it. Next new plugs and there was still a occasional miss. Last thing was the plug wires and that was it. I think what I did is called a complete tune up and why I didn't do it all at the same time instead of making three separate jobs of it is beyond me.
I guess because the points looked so bad that everything else would be good, not so. I'm getting to damn old to live and learn.... Tedd

Finished the first and installed the second, thanks for the belts Gary. The motor runs incredibly smooth. The 350 ran rough. Thinking if I have to rebuild the 350 I might look for another 455 instead. It would cost almost the same to rebuild.
Like design on your hood car looking good. Today I soldered wires in dash getting it ready for dash and gauges assembling it all out of car. Also worked on a paint flaw in front on top of front fender much to my dismay paint must have been contaminated coupled with gun not spraying right so I will sand clean and buy fresh quart of 51 trophy blue. I looked today at catalog from opgi saw door panels assembled were on sale till August 31 about a 250 dollar savings!!!!!!!!
Won Peoples Choice Award at a local cruise in with a 65 Cutlass .( my avitar pic) About 15 cars,including 2 65 Cobra replicas a 65 mustang 69 Bonneville and 2 1900s Fire trucks. Fire trucks were not eligible for votes.(Museum Pieces) Recieved small trophy,a bucket full of samples from local NAPA parts store,and a $25 Gift Card from Napa. Cruise Inn was for a local charity. Attended a small car show here in Mayberry on Saturday night with about 168 others. Normally I usually write do not judge on my windshield show registration sheet and leave as they start handing out awards so as not to be in the middle of the exit traffic jam. I forgot to this time and wouldn't you know, I won another class plaque to stack in the closet. The enjoyment in these shows for me talking to other car owners and spectators.
Took the first longer drive in the old wagon Sunday in the heat , went down to Fairfield and back 45 minutes each way and today to the neighboring town for a cookout and swim today. Nice cruising . Happy Independence Day!
Drove the Cutlass to Oak Beach, LI (about 60 miles round trip) to continue the break in on the engine at 5AM on the 4th. No one on the road to get in the way at warp speed. Ran great but noticed radiator was doing some hiccuping. Guess I'll need to order one of these overpriced overflow tanks.
After one too many local test drives on old tires I finally pushed it too far this week. A 19 year old tire failed on me ! LOL Today I repurposed my new tires I had bought in 2015 for my Rallye and swapped the Cobras to the wagon. Smooth riding once again !
