What goes threw here???

can anyone tell me what went threw this hole? This is the passenger front door jamb/cowl. No holes in door.

Quick update on project:

Finally have my front end off and started on the tub of the car. other than the small hole in the lower fender there was one hole the size of a dime in the lower side of the cowl only on passenger side. Can not belive how little rust is on this car. Has to be the cleanest 68-72 project car I've ever done.

I need to pull the dash out along with the front and rear windows. Have doors disassembled but still hanging on the car for now.

Doesnt have any power options. I thought maybe a fender mount antenna but this has the one in the windshield. Maybe a wire that goes up front to power something. I guess what I want to know is does all of these cars have this hole and grommet or was this something someone added?

Does that grommet have a hole through it or is it just a rubber plug?

Its a wire grommet with a hole. Not a plug.

Most certainly looks like something non-factory.

I have a 68 and that's where the fender mounted antenna wire passes through.

On a 69 this is exactly where the antenna cable goes and it looks like the grommet is the same as a 69. 70 shouldn't have a fender antenna though. Maybe someone installed a fender antenna and duplicated the pre-70 set-up. Does your car have a windshield antenna?

Yes it has a winshield antenna and everything is there for it. There are no holes or patches in the fender where someone may have changed it. I believe the fender is original and didn't apear to ever be removed. But maybe in the last 40 years?

Still has original radio and the antenna cable running to the top of the cowl and the windshield is plugged in. Did any model Cutlass S ever have a fender mount antenna?

Maybe when they redesigned the body from 69 -70 and the windshiled type antenna the engineers didn't have this removed in the early production in 70????

Someone recently told me that that plug is for the fender mounted antenna but they did not use that on a 1970 and newer cars. It was just left over from 68 & 69 cars.

Any chance someone ran speaker wire to the doors through that? Is there another one on the door? How about on the passenger side?

No nothing of any sign in that areas for a pass threw. The holes has the original green even on the inside edges of the hole.

like said, its a left over...a plug was cheaper to use than redsigning the panel, my 70 post car has it too..
