What was the first Oldsmobile that YOU drove ?
I own a 1972 cutlass s
Hello Group,i'm new here and i own a 1972 cutlass s back 1989 when i was 25 yrs old.Drove it all the time back and forth to work and ever day use on top of that.Never really took care of it back then and when the time came i just park it,i did come across another 72 s few yrs later that had been fix up abit, but i decided to have it strip and had the floors cut out of it.Anyways never got around using any of the parts to put in my cutlass s back together.I kick myself in the butt for it and should have bought that other 72 s instead of buying the parts off the car, should have put it on the road a sent mine to junk yard.Anyways i just bought another one to fix up and going to make darn sure to take care of this one.The car is 1971 olds two door cutlass supreme 350 4 barrel that has 106 thousand miles on it.

My first Olds that I drove was my Mother's 69 Hurst Olds. Learned how to drive it when I was 12. Dad figured if I was good at racing quarter midgets, a full size car would be just as easy. I used to drive it around our neighborhood with either of my parents riding shopt gun. I remember driving it to Carson City when I was 14 (on the way to watch the stock car races at T-Car) and my dad telling me to speed up because he didn't think I was driving it fast enough. A Highway Patrol officer pulled up beside us and shook his finger at me. I immediately slowed down and my dad asked how fast I was driving. I told him I was going 85mph. He even asked why I was driving so fast and I told him that I was just doing what you told me to. About 15 years later my sister was driving my 59 Olds thru the same area and asked if I knew what color the speedometer turned after red. I told her that I din't know and she told me silver. I looked over and the speedo was definitely silver. I still have the 69 H/O, but not the 59.
The first car I had was an Oldsmobile. 1975 Cutlass Supreme sedan, 350/350, blue inside and out. Had two cracked heads and starter and taillight issues. For $100 it couldn't be beat. It and a '77 Caprice were the only cars us marching band geeks had that could spin the tires on dry pavement without brake application. Had I not needed a computer my junior year I would have kept it.
My first olds was a 1972 Cutlass , bench seat, 350 Rocket. I got it when I was 16 from my dad. He bought it brand new . I put a set of headers on it and you would have thunk I put in a new engine. Did it ever wake up.
Never lost my love for Olds.
Currently have a '71 442 Hardtop and a '71 Cutlass Supreme ragtop.

The first Olds I drove was a light green 1987 Cutlass Supreme sedan w/ stock V8 that I purchased in 2004 for $500. I got it from my bass player at the time's family. It was part of his recently deceased grandmother's estate. It had about 80,000 miles on it when I bought it. Great, reliable car. It was like riding on a big green couch in a big green living room (the interior was also green).
I had a lot of fun learning things with that car (redoing the headliner, valve cover gaskets, dealing with vacuum lines, replacing the carburetor, replacing the radiator, troubleshooting stalling, etc). Up to that point, I had never tried working on my own cars. Two years and about 40,000 miles later, I sold it to my older brother when my drummer's uncle needed to get rid of his 1972 Cutlass S (also green), which I still have.
Cheers to the often-overlooked 80s Cutlass 4-door!

First car I drove was my parents 76 delta 88. Then my first car was a 74 cutlass "S". I beat the crap out of this car and never blew it up. I was hooked. Then came a 75 cutlass supreme, then a 79 cutlass, then a 75 H/O, then several 81-85 cutlass's, then I stumbled on to a 74 442 big block car. WOW! then after that I owned lots of 73-77's before finding my 69 442. As of now I have a 69 442, 69 cutlass convertable, 68 F85 post coupe (that soon will be a buddies project) and in about 2 weeks another 69 cutlass convert. 25 years of owning Oldsmobiles!!!!!!!
Everything else is just to common at the car shows and cruise's.

Sad to say, the first Olds I drove was my '93 Cutlass Cruiser, but I have fond childhood memories of Olds. Lived in SW Suburb of Chicago, 4 neighbors had Olds, '54 4 door green 98 sedan, '55 2 door green & white 88 sedan, '56 4 door red & white 98 sedan, '58 white over blue 98 sedan & '58 pink 88 convertible (this neighbor had 2). My dad drove Studebakers, then Fords. Could never convince him to buy a GM or a station wagon. Yes, it was in the 50's and they were all new at the time.
Hi guys...new to the board and to Oldsmobile. My first is the one pictured here. A 1970 S Holiday Coupe. Picked it up this past December. Had been sitting for 2-3 years, flat bedded her home, through a new battery in her, she fired up, and after a bit off coughing and wheezing she settled right out. Guy I bought it from said it was a 69 350 that was in her but my research shows its a 67 330. My plans are to drop a 455 in her and I've already got my hands on one with the th400 trans. Could go on and on but won't bore you with all the details. Anyhow, gonna bring her back to life over the next few years and will probably be here looking for quite a bit of support. Have actually already gotten quite a bit of help from a few of you on another tech board and sure appreciate it!

the first olds I drove was a 1978 cutlass calais I paid 75.00 for with a broken tie rod end and missing a t-top boy was that a cold ride in dec. Iwas only 15 at the time. It had a pretty good running 260 in it and I have been hooked ever since
It was a 1979 cutlass cruiser. My mom was teaching me to drive. It came with a "corperate" 305metric200 combo. My dad being the hot rodder he still is immediately replaced it with a 350/350 combo. He built that puppy up nice. If you gave it to her she would bark in second, and scratch in third. I was 15. Dad was pissed when he found out as I didn't have my permit yet. I always thought my driving instructor was riding the brakes in school. (89 tempo) A few years later I got that car, sans the tranney, but still had the engine. Even with the metric 200 back in it she would still embarass the iroc's and 5.0's. woodgrain, whitewalls, and all. Wish I still had that car.
My first Olds was a 1968 442 that I bought brand new out of the dealers showroom. It has a 400 with a turbo 400 trans, Rallye strip, tilt wheel, power seat, remote mirror, am-fm stereo, 3:42 posi Olds 12bolt, Willow Gold with black vinyl top and black interior. The car would scream. I drag raced it for the first two years I owned it and then parked it in my Mom's garage. In 1986 Mom called me and asked when I would be getting my car out of her garage....I have had it ever since.

Boy--this post sure got some responses! First Olds--68 fire engine red Cutlass "S" with a three-speed Hurst shifter on the floor. I was 12 years old and thought Dad would appreciate it if I backed it out. He didn't. I still have the marks!
But it was worth it!

my first olds was my dads 1967 delmont 88 with a 425 2bbl. it had am/fm stereo with one speaker in the back, top of the line system lol. after we moved to texas i bought a 1967 442 with the 400 and 4spd, paid $650 for it and had to tow it home because it needed new lifters and my dad showed me how to change them,(i was only 19). rhoads lifters paid $39 for a set. i can kick myself for selling it. it was the best car i have owned, next to my pro-street 1962 Falcon (shes gone to
).
).
GoodOldsGuy,
Love the stock look of that car! It really convinces me to dump the canary yellow mine is painted now and go back to the stock saffron yellow. I'll also be on the lookout for a 400 to replace the 396 the previous owner cursed it with.

I turned 16 in 1976 and my dad had a 1968 Delmont 88 at the time. It had a 455 and open differential. The first thing I did to it was install an under-dash cassette player and cut holes in the rear package shelf for speakers. The wheel wells were rusted out into the trunk. Well you can probably imagine what the interior of that car looked like any time I got to burning the tires. Instant Cheech & Chong! I bought one just like it a couple of months ago. Ahh, nostalgia!
GoodOldsGuy, I really like the wheel/tire treatment on you car, I have used that technique myself before. Steel wheels, dog dish hub caps, black wall tires; to me that just screams "All Business Baby!".
MIRADAMANia, one of my early cars had that shaggy fake animal fur on the arm rests and the rear package shelf, I think it was in 1969 or 1970, it was blue too, really ugly.

My first one, the one that started my addiction was a 1972 Supreme. Matador red with a black top and black bench seat interior. My dad bought it for me for $250.00 in 1983, just befoe my 16th birthday. I blew up the 350 and replaced it with a 400 from a 71 GTO. We bought that car out of the local paper for $150.00 with a blown trans. Ah, those were the days. My first car was a 71 RS Camaro at 14. Then I had a 68 SS RS Camaro convertible that my dad made me sell to get the Cutlass. I don`t regret it, but if we only knew what that car would have been worth later. Those things were all over back then. Growing up my two older brothers and my dad had all kinds of toys. Real GTO`s, Hemi`s, straight axle Falcons. Sorry to get off the Olds content. Eventually the 72 ended up with a 455 from a 68 442 that I bought off a buddy of mine. Since then I`ve lost count. I currently drive one of my 1973 Vista Cruisers when the weather or need permits. It`s a beater but I love it.

The very first Oldsmobile I ever flew, I mean drove, was a (then brand new) 1958 Ninety-Eight 4-door hardtop; I was nearly 14 at the time. My mother was with me, and we thought the car was going to go out from under us; didn't take long to reach 65 MPH out on the highway (this was in Texas; lots of wide open spaces). Much later on, when I was about 20, I test drove the first Toronado that was ever on display in Austin TX; each car I bought brand new was an Oldsmobile ('66 F85 and '99 Intrigue); the Intrigue immigrated with us to Minnesota, an Oldsmobile loyalty state. - Cheryl B. Montoya/aka Gus Edwards
My First Drive
Mine was a 67 442. It was in fact my first car that I bought from my dad for $500. The only stipulation was that the four speed had to come out and be replaced with and slush box.
No power steering or brakes. His logic was that he wanted both hands on the wheel.

My first OLDS was when I was 14. A 63 98 4 door that my father was done with. I worked on this for a couple of years and couldn't stay ahead of the rust. So I parted it and I still have the motor and other parts to remind me of it. My next Olds was a 65 98 convertible, black with red leather and white top, fully loaded. I blew the engine in a power spin on my 18th birthday (a long time ago). I sure do miss that car. After some time I bought a 63 98 convertible and a 63 98 custom sport coupe, which I still have. In my stable of horse power, I now have a 62 Starfire coupe, 2 63 98 convertibles (1 parts car), 2 63 98 custom sport coupe (1 parts car), a 93 98 touring sedan, and a 2002 Bravada. My oldest daughter (17) has a 63 98 6 window she is customizing as a personal project with a 455 th 400 and posi. This should be very cool when completed. BUT my VERY FIRST Olds tops all of these. It was a 46 (I think) peddle car that I drove up and down the street when I was 3. I first became aware of this car when watching 8mm home movies in black and white with no sound. (we had to make our own sounds). I still have this car as I found it in the back of my father's garage on the top shelf, beside his 29 ****** Knight. I'll be 50 this year and I started driving Olds 47 years ago. That means I'm 94% Oldsmobile. Now for the next generation to carry on. Steve.
First car I drove was my grandma's 72 Plymouth Satellite, I was 9 and was "maintaining the cars" so I was actually allowed too
The first olds I ever drove, was my 87 Cutlass, as soon as it got home. I was 13 when I bought it, my dad drove it 2 miles home with a busted radiator. I let it cool, then had to drive it a little...
You don't even know some of the things I'd do for that car...

Computer mouse
As the story goes 8 years ago I told my wife I was going up to Staples to buy a new computer mouse. On the way saw this black and white 57 Super 88 with a conney kit on a car lot. Red and white tuck and roll. Fell for her hard. next thing I know I signed the papers and brought her home. Took me two hours to get up the nerve to tell my wife what I had parked in the drive way and that we had to go and get other car at the used car lot. This still comes up every time I go to the store
My first olds was a 1978 cutlass supreme. A week after I bought it I had it painted a really nice red (almost like a candy apple red). I bought a set of cragar 5 spoke rims and it looked sweeeet.
The only thing I couldn't stand was the number of guys that would say "wow thats a nice monte carlo you have there".
I still have people saying the same thing about my 84 hurst olds.
I hate that.

1969 Cutlass Covertible, The car was completly ate away with rust, transferred the engine and trans to a rust free 1971 Olds 442 The car had a cheap blue paint job but under it you could see the remains of the original grey with black with orangish strip over the wheel wells and down the rocker panel.
Hurst his/hers shifter, fiberglass dual snorkle hood, 4:10 posi rearend.
My parents hated the car so bad they bought me a mini truck if I sold it.
I sold the car to my good friend for 500.00 in 1989 he paid the first 300.00 and stiffed me on the rest

I think the first Oldsmobile I ever drove was the Achieva coupe scx with the quad4 engine and a 5speed (some chick I was dating in high schools car). That sucker was quick. It would lay FWD scratch through second gear.
As far as owning/driving the omega will be my first owned/driven one.

Okay, I have posted over 120 times but not to this one. Now's the time...
My first drive was in my mom's 86 Cutlass Supreme Brougham 4 door. Burgundy metallic, 307 V8 and every option available. I loved this car since she bought it new in 86.
In 1988, I finally did what my buddy used to do and sneak the car out when the parents were out for the evening. I could drive my go-cart very well, so a car is the same I thought...
I drove over to see the girl I had a crush on at the time - surprised the heck out of her and all her friends. I laid a nice bit of rubber down as well.
After another hour of cruising, I went to go see my buddy (who would take his mom's car out.) After hanging out a bit, I had to go home. In the process, I did not U-turn well and bumped into his dad's Caprice in the back. Ironically his dad was just coming out when it happened... Now since both cars had steel bumpers, there was no damage thank goodness. He just looked at me, the two cars, and told me to "get off them left handed cigarettes"... Oh well, it could have always been worse. We laughed about it for months after. By then, The Olds disease was in my blood...

The first Olds I drove was my grandmother's 63 dynamic 88-loads of torque and power even with the 2-bbl carb..I won a few races with this thing as a 16-yr old.. I have just bought a '63 (my first hobby car)..
first olds
the first olds i ever drove is the one i own now, 1970 supreme, i was a trans am /firebird guy, i had an 89 gta and when i found the cutlass it was all over, sold the t/a and now use the cutlass as my summer daily driver. its not pretty, probaly never will be.
First Olds I drove was the very beginning of this summer, a cherry of a 1966 Oldsmobile 98. LOVED the 425/THM400 combo and everything else about it. The interior was mint, and I liked it especially because it was manual windows and seats, no annoying little motors to go wrong. Was all set to buy it for $1450.00 (an absolute steal) and the guy sold it right out from under me, I mean hours before I was going to show up.

Now I have my 1964 Oldsmobile 98. Not quite the same, but I just love it and all the big Oldsmobiles now, I've definately "caught the bug" as they say. Some day, when I'm rich and have a BIG garage, I'll have that '66 Ninety Eight back...and a '57...and a '69...

my dad owned a '77 cutlass when i was little and used to let me sit on his lap and drive around the country while he pressed the gas pedal down. I couldn't quite reach it yet. then he did the same with the '84 cutlass before he bought the '86 442 that became my 1st-ever car and the olds that sits in my garage today.
First Olds That I Drove
My first time behind the wheel of an Olds was in that of a 1965 red 442 convertable. We bought it from my wife's uncle in 1972 in order to have a second car in the family. It was covered with rust and rode like a squeaking garbage truck, but it only cost us $50.00. The shame of it was that I drooled over one just like it at the World's Fair in New York back in 1965. All of the impressive performance stats were listed on a window card and I had later seen one pass me on a two lane road, downshifting and smoking the tires as he accelerated. Wow! What a machine!
I planned on restoring her but two accidents later, the damage of which we didn't have repaired, I sold it to a neighbor for the same $50 I initially paid, plus I was in $500 collected from the 2 insurance claims. Boy was that car ever a target!

First Olds I drove was my aunt's '50 88 4 door, 3 speed column shift. I was 14; she had come over to visit my Mom, and they went out shopping, and left the keys to the Olds on the kitchen counter. COULD NOT RESIST IT! No TXDL, but fired it up, and off I went. That Puppy would flat out run fast. My first Olds (15) was a '50 88 2 door sedan, hydramatic. Would get rubber really good in 1st and 2nd. Bought it for $500, sold it for $600 (w/the wire wheel hub caps I put on, dual Smithys). Nest car was a '50 98 hardtop DeLuxe ($600). Very rare, although I didn't know it at the time. Got married, blew the motor, and saw it crushed at the junk yard, got $50 for it!!!!!!!!!! Plain stupid. Hope I'm like my Dad; getting older, and smarter.
The first Olds that I drove is the one that got me hooked! 1968 Cutlass with a 4 speed, 350 4bbl, mag wheels, dual exhaust with a 3.91 rear. (Peace signs, mag wheels and 4 on the floor.) Saw it on a Ford dealer lot and decided to take it for a test drive. Beat the crap out of it because I said I would never pay $1400 for it (1976 price). The next day, I traded in my '68 Torino GT Fastback piece of junk and got $300 for it
. Payments were something like $53/month for the next three years. And to top it off, the salesman gave me an application for OCA. Been a member ever since

The first Olds I drove was my dad's brand new 1966 F-85 deluxe, red exterior and interior. He never liked all the badges that were on a car back then and the first thing he did was have all the F-85 emblems removed and the holes covered. My brother and I were disappointed when dad bought the car because he had originally ordered a '66 Chevelle Malibu. We knew dad would never go for the SS 396 option so we did everything we could to get him to order an SS 327 - the 4 barrel carb, the whole bit. Well, he didn't bite on that one, either. What he ordered was a 283 2-barrel Malibu, but it never came. He finally got mad and, in a huff, cancelled the Malibu order and went to the Olds dealer and bought the F-85. Bottom of the line, my brother and I thought, until we found it the 330ci engine had a 4 barrel carb and it was rated at 310 hp. And dad put chrome reverse wheels on it with spinners - he said he would do it as long as my brother and I kept the rust off the wheels, which we did with diligence! At that point, we forgot all about the Malibu and proudly drove the F-85 deluxe. By the way, that car did not have power steering or power brakes. My dad's motto at the time: If you need power steering and power brakes, well then you are just too damn lazy to drive! And my brother and I both struggled in driver's ed, with the Plymouth Fury III that had power steering and brakes. It seemed like that car wandered all over the road and, any time we put on the brakes, we locked everything up! I don't know what rear end the F-85 had, but it was a pretty fast car. A few years later, dad traded in the F-85 for the 4-4-2 you see in the picture.
I put my payment down on my '66 Delta 88 in May of 1995 when I was 15. The car stayed with the owner in Saskatchewan and I went back to Ontario, where I worked at a family owned 1 Hour Photo store all summer.
At Christmas time, I returned to Saskatchewan with the money that I earned working at the store. Paid the man. Armed with a learners permit and my Grandmother, drove the Olds a half hour to a barn on family owned property where is sat for another 9 months while I saved enough money to drive it home to Ontario (talk about anticipation).
I think I will go out and stare at it now....
