Or should it be Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust?

That's a huge room - there were a lot of cars on display back there. Seeing that '93 Ruby upside down in some pics bums me out since I know it was probably a pristine example. The '62 didn't look too badly damaged from what is visible. It probably depends on how fast they sank and how hard each car hit at the bottom as to whether they can be repaired. The '83 used to be parked in a glass room right when you came into the main building, so I guess it was moved back to the dome in recent years. Glad that one (of 1) was spared!

Wow I was just there a couple of months ago! The entire town of Bowling Green sits over numerous caves and sinkholes. Mammoth Cave is not very far from BG. If that sinkhole opened up into one of the caves then there will be no way to fix it !

If you want to make money this year .. buy a ground penetrating radar or sonar device and head for Kentucky ... I'll wager every gov't and commercial building is going to be screaming for regular inspections after this.

Wow - sad... One would have thought a good geological investigation woulda been done before that was built. How old is the building? Some things could change fast I guess.
Time to seek a new location for a new building.

Looking into the opening and seeing the lack of earth and how many voids there are and how deep the cars are makes me think that the whole building could be condemned. Hope they have sinkhole insurance.

The Corvette plant is really close by. I'll bet some inspections are happening there now too!

Im not the biggest corvette fan. I actually kinda chuckled when I read the article and picture all the vetteheads crying in rage taking the day off from work lol.

I love my Vette, had it close to 40 years. Its a simple car to work on like most older cars. Its scary fast, at least going in a straight line, or trying to. Vettes are as much an important part of auto history as our Olds are.
Too bad this happen!

In my parts of the region vette guys are hated with a passion. Cruise nights many of them don't do a vette night anymore because the vette guys can't follow rules. As far as history goes I can see the importance the vette holds but in the end these are just cars even mine ours. I would probably feel diffrent if they where my cars or if I liked them but the world keeps turning.

Yeah, there's no love lost between most car guys and Vette guys.
I like the early-sixties Vettes, and don't mind the Stingrays, but when I was growing up, the kind of guys driving Vettes were the kind where you'd wash after shaking hands with them. These days, most of the resto guys are certifiably insane.
I do hate to see nice cars trashed though, regardless of make. Heck, I'd even have been a little upset if they'd been Mustangs .
The bottom line for me, though, in keeping with the thread's title, is that if there was ever a single model of car that I would have expected to be swallowed into a steaming, yawning, bottomless pit, smelling of brimstone and death, it would be the Corvette, so I will note that they were sucked into the bowels of the earth by a sinkhole, and not lifted into the sky by a tornado.

If there's one thing I have found, it's there's bad people in every car group, and good people in every car group. Yes, the trend is for a certain direction, and Corvette owners who are bad people are typically of the rich jerk variety, as opposed to, say, Mopar or Chevelle owners, whose jerks are more of the mullet wearing, Rush listening, trashy type, but the point is that every group has their bad apples, and one shouldn't judge the person by their car.
What IS interesting is how the old phrase "there's no one more devout than a convert" applies to cars. That guy who is the typical Corvette snob? He's owned that car 6 months and bought it restored. My old man owns a Corvette, he has since 71, and it's a 71. It tends to stop conversations of snobbery when they ask how long he has had it.

I have been snubbed by 442 enthusiast . I pull up to cruise nights usually with a very lopey healthy idle . The come over see a young guy with a fiberglassed front end , 4 point roll bar gutted Interior , They might ask a few questions then they kinda walk away when I tell them I did 95 percent of the work on my car like they don't belive me or I ruined a car. Young guy with a "fast" car usually in their mind "oh here is a street racer ruining a perfectly good car". This is why I hate cruise nights. It was fun at first then it got repetitive.
