What do you think this 54 88 would sell for at auction ?

I went to an estate sale today to bid on this 54 88.

It was supposedly a 2 owner, with 58,000 miles. The engine sounded good with no noises, though it did have some oil sitting in top, maybe valve cover gaskets. No smoke. The auctioneer said it drove good. It had been repainted at one time and had numerous scratches and flaws, though the body was nice. It would need painted to be really nice. All around a real decent driver, but not a show car by far. What would you bid on this car ?
I was thinking $4000.00, but after listening to the crowd I was thinking it would probably sell for $6000.00 to $7000.00. The hammer dropped at $11,250.00 Does that seem at little crazy?

For a 4-door sedan in the condition you describe, that's a hell of a price. Someone really wanted it. It does look like a well-kept original, and the low mileage on a nearly 60 year old car is attractive, too.

TWO people really wanted it! That's why you can't always value a car on auction results. If it was a two door hardtop the price may have been a bit more realistic.

Nice, sorta survivor and it sold for what it was worth that day. Tomorrow who knows......lost in the fifties...Tedd

PS. soon a 60 year car will need most everything if driven much, one should figure that in when placing a bid on any car of that age.

I think for a 4 door 11K is quite high. 6-7K sounds like ball park to me. But hell, what do I know.............LOL!

The seller had to be very happy. The auction process worked very well here and the seller got considerably more than the car is worth.

Or one person wanted it and the other was a shill from the auction company.
