Hi Guys,

Well I removed the intake manifold in order to replace the gasket. This sounds like a small feat but for me it is huge. I was feeling pretty good until I broke something.

My knowledge is very limited so I am not sure what it is I broke. Below is picture. It is the small tube that broke. I traced the other end and it goes over to the passenger side fender.

Any help would be awesome.

if it is the small grey plastic tube? it's a vaccum line for the heater valve. it can peiced by together with vuccum hose.

Phew, that sounds easy enough to fix.

It took me hours to take the manifold off. The emissions stuff was killer to remove. I spent most of my time labeling everything and taking pictures so hopefully the installation will be easy.

I take it this is being done on your '87?

If so, please post some pictures of the progress, and what other challenges you met with along the way.
I will have to do this on my '86 CS some time in the future and I dread it. That emission crap is the worst part, as you said.

BTW, while much of the stuff is cleared away up top, how much more work is needed to do the valve cover gaskets? Mine are leaking bad (original ones.)

This is my first stab at a major project and I was so surprised how easy it was. Most of my time thus far has been spent labeling all the emissions stuff. I basically labeled everything with a letter. Think I got up to T!!

The only major problem I had was clearing the a/c compressor bracket. I might have to take this off before I install the intake. Otherwise there is no way to just lower the intake on to the gasket.

As for the valve cover gaskets, mine are fine but since I am in there I am going to do them as well. I am also going to repaint the covers and the intake.

Well done. It is a fairly daunting looking task to an amateur (which describes me) and which is why I bought the parts then gave it to a mechanic to do and check out other bits'n'pieces while he was in there. As it was he couldn't get the tray to sit right so he cut the valley out of it. He had the car all day and charged $150. That's OK by me cos if he screwed up he'd have to do it again. He replaced some hose, a couple of clamps, did the timing and replaced the t'stat gasket in that price. I would have still been up the shed trying to figure it out.
