Were all hoods not created equal?

Why are some hoods on '70 Cutlii carried over from 1969 with the "squared off" front and some are "sloped" like the '71-72s?

All 70 hoods are all like the 69s. None are like the 71-72 hoods. The OAI hoods are not square like the regular ones.

There are some that don't have the squared off front. I don't know which models got those vs the ones like the non-OAI 442 hoods. It is interesting how many different models they made back in the day! I've always been struck by the reasoning to build both a Cutlass flat top wagon and a Vista Cruiser. Or a post car and the hardtop. So many different toolings needed for all the different models.

I just went out and looked, and I thought the nose was different between the hoods with the chrome grill inserts by the windshield compared to the ones with just the slots cut into the hood. I may be wrong about the nose part. I'd have to set the two side by side to be sure.

Are you talking about the difference between the 1970 Cutlass Supreme and Vista Cruiser vs. the Cutlass "S" and F85 ? The 70 Supreme and Vista cruiser have a flat hood. The "S" etc have the raised bumps- like the starting of OAI scoops. 71 and 72 all had the raised "bumps".

I wondering the same. Some pics would be great. I like my raised 1970 Cutlass S hood other than moving it around. It had to be twice the weight of the hood on my RWD 1988 Cutlass.
