Waterpump rebuilder...plus questions

1st. Does anyone have a good waterpump rebuilder?

2nd. The water nipples (heater hoses at the top) seem to be non-original...can these be pressed in?
It looks like they weren't pressed in far enough...

I'm looking for a '65 pump btw....
Thanks

Peter - Nearly certain they're pressed in fitting. I rebuilt one years ago on a Dodge Dart. Sorry I have no direct knowledge on a reputable re-builder but I've seen this guy/place mentioned over the years.

Flying Dutchman water pumps did the pump for my ‘69. They did a great job…

Peter, you can rebuild your own waterpump if you have a light duty HF press. It’s not difficult. Instructions can be located on the net. The by-pass tubes can be found here, and all over eBay. https://alexsparts.com/water-bypass-tubes/

Rebuild kits are available here: https://cowboyjohnsautoparts.com/ant...uild-kits.html

To remove the by-pass tubes, place the waterpump in a bench vise and collapse the bypass tubes using a cold chisle, hammer, and pliers.

Yes, the tubes are pressed in until they bottom out. Use a very light application of Permatex Aviation Sealant prior to installation.

The biggest issue I see is getting the impeller off the shaft. I have a water pump with a factory cast impeller and I just about broke the impeller attempting to remove it. I stopped before destroying things.

Kenneth, as I suggested to you several years back with you surfaced this same concern it that you first soak the waterpump for 3 to 5 days in something like EvapoRust prior to doing any pressing to it. I almost guarantee you didn’t do that…..

I hope you are enjoying your cooler weather at this time of year!

and

both did good for me so far....

I am partial to the cast iron empeller instead of the pressed fan type in my experience..

Thanks for the reminder / tip.

You are correct that I did not soak it. I had thought about swapping the cast closed impeller onto a newly purchased reman pump in place of the stamped steel impeller. I abandoned that plan when I couldn’t remove the impeller and have found the stamped impeller works well, even in Phoenix temperatures.

Ag parts limited. Humboldt Iowa. 95% Farm pumps and small percentage of Automotive including Ford 2 year only pump and my friends 330 water pump. I have sent them some really odd duck pumps. All came back in 7 days done in black paint. My dealership has been doing business with them for 40 years.

I called AG rebuilders and they said they didn’t change the bypass nipples.
I kinda thought that was weird…kinda why I’m asking here.

I use the water pump man in Michigan. Just google them. I know many of the restoration and engine builder places use him.

I used the Flying Dutchman, as someone else above also conveyed, on a 1969 pump a couple of years ago. That was a positive experience.
