Water Pump Gaskets

Water Pump Gaskets
I’m working on adding power steering and AC to my 69 442. A member was kind enough to give me the pulley set and I’ve finally decided to park the car and tear it down to get the power steering done.
I picked up a 6” water pump and I picked up a felpro water pump gasket. Turns out the gasket doesn’t fit the new water pump but I’ve confirmed that it is the correct gasket for my car and it does fit the old 5” water pump.
so the question is - is there a different gasket that I need to get?

Of course, the bigger question is, why did you get a 6" pump? Your 1969 442 used a 5.6" pump with A/C. The correct pulleys and brackets are designed for that pump length.

There are three different Olds water pump gaskets (four if you count the reverse rotation pump in the V6 diesel). The gasket needs to match the pump. The front cover on the engine is the same from 1964-1990.

I had a 5.6” pump that I purchased while I gathered parts and when I test fitted everything I found that things didn’t line up. The 6” pump fixed the alignment problem.

Thanks Joe! I have the one on the top right and I think I need the one on the left. That looks like the same one that I used on my 77 442. I’ll check the price on the kit and pick it up to be safe.
As I’ve dug in to this car I’m finding more things that aren’t right. The wiring harness under the hood is wrong, and I have an alternator with an external regulator. The alternator bracket was the one for an AC car but I knew that when I first looked at the car. The pillows that the car cam with were a mix match to make it work but they clearly don’t go together because only one groove lined up.
On the bright side all of the body panels are original other than a small patch panel in the driver side quarter panel. I guess being an Arizona car really preserved it well.
