Water pumps were cast by the thousands and stockpiled by CFD. You could get one that was built months before the car. Suffice to say if the CFD date is after the build, you likely have a replacement part.

Similar concept to engine blocks and intake/exhaust manifolds.

Probably not what you were looking for in an answer.

Looking for one for my 71 442. Just want to get one with the right date range. Not too early not too late. Thanks

Check your cowl tag. The build date on it will be the date Fisher Body works started welding your car body together. Once that was done they installed the interior components like dash, glass, etc. Then the car was sent to the assembly line where it recieved its frame and driveline, plus front clip and trim. So about a week to build the car. Look for an ordinal date on the CFD that is within or just before that time range. I don't know what your time date code is but you can check the 1971 Ordinal numbering here. (it should be fairly close to what I think you're looking for)

One of the numbers will likely be from the mold the pump came from, the 3 digit will be the actual date the pump was cast.

If your car is non air, you need a "1" 328 pump. I have a couple of cores. I can check the date codes if interested. It will be early next week before I can check.

Thats a "3"... I cant remeber the casting number, but I can get it if you need it. 71/72 A/C have the same app. 6" length. I do not have any extra "3"s. Good luck.
