Warped '71 Chrome Repo Mirror Base?

I was test fitting my repo right side mirror and the base of it is warped? The ends are tight and the middle is up almost an eighth of an inch, needless to say it won't work, has a big hole under it and won't tighten.
I got the thing a few years back and don't remember from where and can't find the receipt for the life of me, the box says nothing.
Anybody else have this problem or I just got a reject? I want to get another but if it's an inherent problem no way. It seems like a lot of the repo part quality control is lacking even more than usual lately.
Would rather have a used one with a little wear than what I got but hard to find.
I try not to use repo parts, very few aren't screwed up in some way, shape, or form.
Could pay it forward and sell the thing on evilbay but with my luck somebody here would buy it.
I have a conscience, sometimes I wish I didn't.

Blue,

Never had that problem with mirrors, but I've tossed a few outside door handles across the garage.

A few months ago, I was talking with Fusick's about the mainfold heat riser pipe. It took some rather severe modification to work.

Chineseium just ain't what it used to be.

I know a few crooked parts guys ya could sell it too as pay back for some of the crap they've unloaded on me. Without going into a lot of detail, let me just say "God Bless"

A while back while I was at Y1 griping about and returning my repro sunvisor brackets that wouldn't fit, the guy next to me was returning a mirror with a warped base. He was working on a Chebelle, so it appears the Chinesium parts don't discriminate.

Allen, let me dig through my parts. Are you using the matching non-adjustable for the drivers side too? John

That's what I have on there now. That would be great if you have one, a little wear is okay.
I would like to get a remote mirror for the left but at this point I just want to get the car painted and back together and on the road. Then I can play with stuff like that, if I have any money left.
I have to call the painter today to make sure he'll be ready for me to drop the beast off this Saturday, Ya-Hoo!!!
I better lay low for a few days, I know if I go outside a meteorite will hit me in my punkin' head and knock me stone dead the way things usually go for me.
My nylon oil pressure gauge line just broke inside the car the other day.
I guess they are junk, had to see for myself.
I actually partially lucked out, had the carpeting and interior all covered with masking plastic for paint, just in case, and it saved my carpeting. I went to the parts store and got a copper line.
Doing the line I lightly leaned on my temporary chrome air cleaner and broke the plastic adapter base into a million pieces. The reason I have that one is because I accidentally dropped my original air cleaner on the ground and now I have have to beat the dent out and paint it again.

We are beyond the Ides of March aren't we?
I think Joe Btfsplk may be hanging around my garage somewhere.

Did you ever consider the fact that you are trying to put a '68 & '69 mirror on a '71... the curvature on the door ledge demands that the base be not warped for us but warped for you...

Ho! That's right! The 1968-69 look very similar but do have a different mounting base. I think the base is also narrower. Can you measure the width of the drivers side and compare it to the width of the pass side you have? John

Thanks guys, you nailed it.

The box say 70-72 all over it?
I pulled out the left mirror and you're right John, the base is wider.
My heart skipped a beat when I thought I may have the right side mounting holes spaced wrong but the left one fit the right side so hopefully they're the same.

I still think most repo parts are inferior to the originals though.
Now my left mirror looks really bad next to the repo right and wrong one when I compared...mightaswell.

Well, look at the bright side. You could have hacked it up trying to getting it in there and then you wouldn't have been able to return it. So at least it was a small brain fart!

Hey John, thanks for the pics.

That's a nice camera too, mine won't do close-ups like that.
I have an old floppy disc Sony I use to do macro.

The mirror looks good, Im not that nutso, next phase will be new repo and bumper plating but I need something to drive it until I win the lottery. Parts with a little patina lend to the overall old car look and feel anyway, sort of like smile lines.

I have "The Prettiest One" now and it has sport mirrors so I'm out of luck.
I can't believe how much more powerful a 4 barrel 350 feels when I pulled her in the garage?.
Maybe my car is just a lot heavier... or a wimp.
I just remembered that I still need an A/C compressor belt shield after looking at "TPO" last night, Sandy knows it's there so no luck.

Hello Allen
Please PM me your address again, I'm not organzied enough to still have it! I'll look for the AC belt shield too. John

"But Sandy... are you sure it had a belt cover???"

Also, I'm thinking your Vista has a 350, right? Long ago I had a 1972 Vista Snoozer with a 455 and 2.78 open rear end. It wouldn't spin the tire from a dead stop, but if I got it rolling and stomped the gas pedal one rear tire would just fry! I think the torque of a big block would make a difference with a car that large/heavy. John

A-OK John.
Mine has a 3:08 open, it just felt a lot more powerful but the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill too.
I think a drag race down in the flats by the old steel mill is the only way to find out for sure.

My car is in the body shop or I could compare. Tomorrow were having a pow-wow there so the painter guy can tell me what else I want to have him do.
"But it's 95% there, why not just go all the way?"

He's really into the tan painted strip on the top of the rockers and the woodgrain trim.
