VIN "R" code

My 71 Supreme has an R in the vin, I know its made in Arlington Texas.
Any significant about that or just enjoy a Texas made car?

No, just enjoy.

I've owned three 71 S holidays form the Arlington plant. One thing in common, 2.56 rear ratios.

The "R" code came later. It only referenced weather you had a true olds engine or one of the other possible engines from GM. So, if you were a counter jockey at a parts store, you could tell from the vin, what engine you had. In your case in doesn't matter, that took place a few years later in parts books....before computers. I'm thinkn...1977 or so, did the R code really mean anything after that.

'72 was the year that the engine code was incorporated into the VIN. 5th digit engine code and the 7th digit is the assembly plant code.
