1970 standard mirror info
1970 standard mirror info
This mirror looks like the mirror that came standard on my '70 Cutlass SX, I am not sure about the control **** though. Can any of you resident experts properly identify which models and years this mirror was available on? I would like to list it for sale, but want to ensure that it is not misidentified. Thanks for sharing your infinite rocket wisdom!
Mirror was an option on 70-72 Cutlass models, and also was available on B/C cars as well. It's listed as the D33 Remote mirror. Drivers side only. LOL - listed price in 72 was 12.00
Yours appears to be in nice shape with no pitting.

Well, I have received responses both supporting and against Cutlass application for this mirror from seasoned C/Oers. I have included an up close pic of the control joystick. Are there any more inputs, perhaps from those that have this mirror factory installed on their A body? Thanks again.
No luck here. Looks like someone has been down this road before.

Reason I said it was an option for 71/72 is it's listed in the 72 SPECS booklet, and I had a 72 Cutlass (built in 71 for the 72 year) that had one of these mirrors. It looked like the one in your picture.
Allan,
I think the mirrors might be the same or very similar but the **** or joystick looks different for the '70-'72 years. Here is at least one from a '69, I try to label all the parts I pull anymore, but the other two are not marked, so I'm not sure where they came from. I know the '70-'72 **** looks different on the sport mirrors & I thought on the chrome ones also?

I remember taking the door panel off my 72 one time, and that cable was a PITA at the time because I didn't know what I do now. Anyway, the one you're holding in the second pic and the one to the immediate left were exactly the type of barrel that was on my 72. There should be a small allen screw(s) holding it to the door escutcheon IIRC?? The adjustment **** on all of them looks pretty much the same. I doubt Olds would re-engineer the wheel for something like this. (LOL knock on wood..)
Here are a couple better pix of the ****. They screw into the part that holds the cables.

remote mirror
Part #399519 is the optional ‘68-69 Cutlass remote mirror assembly. I cannot state whether it also fits '70, but can say for sure it will not fit a 71-72. The rest of this post is just for the record.
The 68-69 A Series (Cutlass and derivatives) models could come with two mirror assemblies – The #399519 (Jervis) and #400131 (Nelmor). The assembly consists of the base (where the part number is found underneath), the mirror enclosure, the cable, the ****, and possibly the bezel.
I removed a #399519 (Jervis) from my 1969 Cutlass and replaced with a NOS #403964 (Nelmor). The 403964 is not listed in the Assembly manual or any parts books that I could find, but it is an identical match for the 399519 with the exception that it had a Nelmor ****. I can only assume it was a later replacement part number for the 400131.
On my examples (different years and big car vs small car may vary), the Jervis **** was thicker, and had a smooth base into which the **** and cables attach, whereas the Nelmor **** was thinner, had a longer taper, and had exposed springs in the base. Be aware that the interior bezel/escutcheon and retaining clip is different between the Jervis and Nelmor *****, and the usual Olds parts houses do not specify which they are selling.
I am attaching some pics of the 1969 Assembly Manual showing these items for reference. You can also see examples of the different style ***** and bezels in Oldspackrat’s pictures above.
The angle of the base and mounting gasket is different between the 68/69 and 71/72 (again, I do not know about a ’70). You will know quickly if you have the wrong one because the 71/72 version will hit the window if installed on a 68/69 car (I speak from experience, unfortunately). If you hold the actual mirror enclosures from a 68/69 version against the 71/72 version, they seem to be identical in shape and would probably be interchangeable once you remove it from the base. The mirror can come out by removing a small set screw behind the mirror, and the enclosure can come off the base with a few screws.

WOW! Thanks Texas69, that is some very in depth education on these mirrors! I can't imagine where you would source info like that. I really appreciate your taking the time to share it though.

I appreciate all of the insight to correctly list this item from all of the posters.
