VIN number resurrected
Has anyone ever had a VIN number resurrected?
My car was stolen back in 1974. It was recovered a couple months later but when it went to the inpound yard they pulled the VIN from the car and stuck a NY DMV sticker tag on it.
I have owned this car for several years now. Since it's a well maintained survivor car it has been easy to come up with what the original VIN was. The cowl tag and having matching numbers on the engine and tranny helped me figure this out.
I gave my friend who is a NY State Trooper this info along with what the previouse owner told me about the car. He was able to track down and get me a copy of the original police report. The police report has the previous owner's name along with the VIN that I had come up with.
With this police report I can now show that this car is a true 442. Because the VIN on the police repot matches what the body tag and stamped numbers on the tranny and engine.
All I need to know is that having this police report good enough to validate it's a true 442. Or should I search for more information.
I'm fine having the new VIN sticker in the door jamb. It would be nice if DMV could resurrect the car's original VIN
Has anyone ever had there VIN resurrected by the DMV?
