Well your o is a 0. As far as the stamping on the engine and trans go they don't make any sense. They never built that many cars in a year. The stampings should read 30Z133972 to match the car and breaks down as follows.
3 = Oldsmobile division
0 = production year (1970)
Z = assembly plant (Fremont CA)
133972 = sequence number same as VIN (33972 car produced on that line)

thanks for the reply i have gotten 3 different answers over the last 30 yrs
makes no sense ,is a fake stamping (seems like a lot of work to do it wrong & the 4 stamped where it is was too indicate 4 barrel model in expermental stage before it became production model (have no idea where he would have gotten that info).

I agree with Randy.

Take a picture of your VIN and your cowl tag and then post them ok?

Sounds like you have a 1970 Cutlass Supreme Convertible. The cowl tag will have some other information such as your trim line, factory exterior color and roof color etc.

Get some better pics for sure. The one on the engine looks to me like it it ends with a 4? And I can't see the trans number at all.

Either way my gut tells me you MIGHT have a bad attempt at a re-stamp on your hands just because of the long numbers after the letter and the missing 3 at the beginning of the sequence.

vin ???

I will have my wife hold some lights for me tonight & try to get better photos. the reason i don't think it is a fake stamp is because of the following reasons- this car is a 1970 cutlass sx convert. with the 365 hp 4 bbl motor & i have owned since it was a little more than 9 years old - long before anyone was attempting to change a 455 ci cutlass into an sx as they were not know as a rare car back then.I can read the #s fairly well with my eyes & have never found anyone with some answers for me. thanks for the input,i am hoping that some of the olds experts can help me.

and the VIN number has terrible alignment though that could be normal for that assembly line but I have not seen that much variance in height or space on a Lansing VIN tag

70 sx vin ???

another reason i beleive someone did not forge these - the person i bought the car from 6/15/80 told me the sx stood for a convertible.

Its not a Lansing Vin Code Z is a Freemont California I.D

I don't remember the spacing on the VIN being like this either. Anyone with a 70 able to validate the way the VIN is stamped?

Nope, SX was available in the Supreme coupe and vert. The Convertible is identified by the number 67 after the first 342

If you can get a pic of your cowl tag, I can tell you the original color of the body and roof color.

oops, I wasn't clear, I meant I am only really familiar with Lansing VIN tags and not others so maybe there is a difference on Freemont cars, though I just checked my neighbors Linden NJ car (E) and it was not aligned either just not as crazy off as this one.
