Vent window weatherstrip install on 68 442?
Good morning all! I don't see anything in any of my manuals about wether or not to use weatherstrip adhesive in the vent window frame. What have you done when you did yours? Seems like it needs it, I havent tried screwing it back together yet, maybe that is enough to hold it in place?
Thanks

No, it doesn't look like they used adhesive from the factory. I guess the factory weatherstrip was probably a better fit than the after market stuff. I screwed the frame back together and it looks better....I am going to use a little adhesive.
Thanks Rob.

Well I took the drivers side apart and cleaned YEARS ago. I guess I threw out the old weather strip Fortunately, I left the passenger side together. Took it apart and found the 4 little metal clips that hold the thick, angled part of the weatherstrip...thats good...bad part is the clips were probably still on the one I threw out. Now either split the four between the sides...or track down more.
It is pretty easy to take apart. Of course you will have to have the vent window out of the door. One screw at the very tip that you access from the big door glass channel, then two screws on the lower horizontal part(it is riveted at the other end where the main glass channel is. Once the screws are out, it frees up the vent window which is then rotated about all the way open, then you can slide the shaft up and out. There are two stainless channels that can then slide off the window channel. The narrower one has a couple of spots where the stainless looks to be pressed or crimped down into two holes on the channel. You can use a small tool and tap it so it will let you slide the stainless up and out of the window channel. I will get some pics posted. NOW whose got the little clips pictured? (they obviously didnt come with the new weatherstrip)

So here is some detail pics of the stainless trim on the vent window. Drivers side slid right off but the passenger side I had to tap the stainless out from the window channel JUST Barely! So drivers side is done...now to find those clips.

Those clips are a bitoch to reuse. I really think all they were for was to hold the w/s in place till the glue dried. I just put a set in and the clips wouldn't hold,so I just glued them in. Once the glue drys, you're good to go. The frame I did had traces of glue,so I'm pretty sure they had both. You can't buy new frames and you have to have old ones re-chromed. The clips would not hold on the new chrome, that's why I didn't use them.
