Vacuum system 1959 thru 1962
I have a 1961 Dynamic 88 394 cu in engine with a two barrel carburetor. Discovered the instrument panel with the deluxe heater receives it's vacuum from the fuel pump! That is right, the fuel pump. The small rubber vacuum line comes out the top of the fuel pump, travels along the right rocker cover then is routed through the firewall to a T fitting splitting the vacuum between both heater and summer ventilation controls. The fuel/vacuum pump provides supplementary vacuum, primary vacuum comes from the base of the carburetor. Somewhat odd. Heater and ventilation systems failed to operate, discovered the small rubber line got flattened by improper clamping during production (took 43 years). I am requesting; Warranty?

Based on the service manual, the fuel pump should provide the extra vacuum during high power operation. My car had no issues until the vacuum hose going from the fuel pump to the dash crushed and split. That hose was not secured properly and age took its toll. Replacing the hose this weekend, I hope.

This is great info, I actually started a thread in the 88 section. I recently bought a 62 88 and for whatever reason all the vacuum lines are either missing or plugged?? Larry/Car you could look it up and offer some of us some help. Thanks.

Yea, turned into a vacuum system authority. My car performed flawlessly for 54 years now I have old car issues. 88 section? I am new here, migrated from the Corvette Forum. Anyway I will look, if I can find it.
