Vacuum fitting direction

This is on my 1969 Toronado, but it's probably a general question. Any advice on what to do when the vacuum fitting doesn't "bottom out" in the right direction? The photo with the red arrow shows where the threads tighten down, and the green arrow shows where it should be. It's a 1/2 turn loose to get there, and too tight to risk cranking it tighter.
- Leave it, it's tight enough?
- Plumber's tape or goop?
- Tighten it, and loop the hose back around?

Thanks,

An additional option might be to purchase a replacement & see if new threads might provide a better fit. You can get them from the usual suspects...

That's a good idea, thanks. After engine rebuild, might as well have new fittings (they might be anyway, but hard to tell).

Edit: Ha, just looked at photo again, I don't think those are new fittings

You can generally find those vacuum fittings at your local auto parts store or hardware store. You might also try to put some Teflon tape on the fitting before buying a new one.

I was hesitant to mention another option but they have various curved (45°/90°) plastic vacuum pieces you can fashion into position, as well. You have options.

Yes! This is no big deal. As long as a hose connects the two ends as required, who cares whether the hose is 3 inches long or 10?

Sometimes you have no choice but to loop a hose. These kinds of fittings can often have more than one port on them all pointing in the same direction, and those ports connect to different areas of the engine. It's inevitable that at least one of them will require some hose looping to make the connection.

Take something like this, for example. Those three ports all require a hose, and there's no way that at least one of them won't have to looped around more times than a roller coaster to connect the other end.

An engine with lots of vacuum hoses is not supposed to be pretty. It's just supposed to work.

If you want that put back to the original position, just use some teflon tape and snug it up to your liking,This should have tapered threads... This does not need to be real tight. Once installed, spray some carb cleaner around this areas to see if you hear a change in the idle,, if no change you are good to go...you are checking for a vacuum leak at this point. I should also say [before someone corrects me] you do not need tape with tapered threads but this may get you where you want to be..

This. Just did the same thing in order to clock the 90° brass fitting from the new fuel pump to the new fuel line on my Q-Jet, otherwise the outlet would have pointed to the ground. So far, so good, no leaks.

Thanks all, these are all good confirmations of a couple ways to go. I'll try them out.
