Under Hood Light

Hello Guys this is my first question in this forum, I recently purchased a 1970 442 W30 ( original ) and noticed the light under the hood does not work upon further investigation I noticed the wire was cut, my question is what activates the light to come on and off.
Thanks

There is a "mercury switch" in the light fixture such that, when the hood is down, that "switch" is off. As you raise the hood, the "switch" moves to the "on" position and activates the light. The wire to the light should be activated by your headlight switch. If you put the headlight switch into the parking lights or headlights position, that should provide power to the under hood light.
