Trim Removal

I picked up a 65 442 Post yesterday. Unfortunately it is to far gone to save. I got it for parts and to take reference photos. I could use some feedback on how to remove the trim on the top of the body sides. Thanks in advance.

Not real familiar with that year trim but can you post any pics showing where exactly it is positioned down the body sides?

Two things to check....run your hand up inside the front fender skin where the trim is located. Feel/look for any mounting studs/speed nuts back there.

Pop the trunk and look around...same thing...inside of QP skins.

Doors...check the backside of the door skin at each end and see if there are any screws holding each end of any door trim on.

IF NOTHING...the stuff is likely popped on over some sort of retainer blocks. Try CAREFULLY prying up behind the trim with a stiff putty knife/scraper and see if it pops loose. That may be a start at least until someone with specific '65 knowledge shows up.

thats exactly what i was gonna say, some is accesible behind door panels inside the trunk, and the ones you cant reach should be push in. sounds like your talking about the rare "H" chrome along the tops of fenders to the back of the car. be carefull, its not reproduced

Yes it is the H trim. I don't think the front fenders and doors will be a problem but the quarters are a different story. I only see one bolt the rest are blind fasteners. I plan on taking as long as it takes to remove it as I know it is hard to get and not reproduced.

It is a shame that this car was left to rot. Once I strip it, the body will have to be scrapped as it is a basket case.

My quest to find a complete 65 400 is finally over. It has all the brackets, pulleys as well as the complete A/C system minus the condenser.

Front fender chrome is held on by studs thru holes in the fenders. Speed nuts on backside of fenders hold chrome on. Doors and quarters are held on by studs on the car, with plastic snap on fasteners that hold the chrome. The rear most end of chrome has a stud. Door ends have studs/nuts too.

Very slow. With the cost of private school and other family related expenditures funds are tight. It doesn't help that the everyday cost of living is on the rise.

Thanks. Now I just have to remove the pieces without damaging them. Patience is not in my vocabulary.

I plan on posting what I do not plan on using. First I need to strip it and get it out of here before the city comes to the door with that little red tag.

I understand man. I had twins 2.5 years ago and my stuff has been at a standstill since. Trying to do some sidestuff to get ahead but spare time is almost as scarce as $$.

Pictures

To bad the rust monster took hold. This car would be a good candidate for a restoration.
