Are the trans lines bolted down?

The trans cooler lines on my 70 cutlass run in between the engine block and the header and dont have any kind of clip holding them. They are only about an inch from the header. Aren't they supposed to be bolted to the frame down by the motor mount?

There is a clamp on the crossmember (by the motor mount) that holds them down on the 72 models. I would expect the same for 70. Look for a hole there. The clamp's original mounting clip is a push-in metal one-time-use type that must be destroyed to remove it.

What Rob said!! It's a thin sheet metal strap/clamp and it's typically partially coated with a black rubber or plastic material on the part that loops over the trans lines.

The retention method is a metal push pin and as Rob said, it's a use-once type set up.

The repro parts places sell a repro for approx $18 or so. You might be able to get a used strap or fashion one and attach it to the prepunched hole in the frame cross member with some sort of bolt or screw if you aren't worried about original looks.

There are one or two holes punched in the frame crossmember in that area from the factory.

Thanks. The front control arms are from G. Lever @ http://www.leverfamilysite.com/ who seems pretty well known for his work. The upper arms have a really nice sheen to them as you can see in the pic. Still not sure what the stamped "C" means though. Prob from a Chevy. <<< Was I supposed to put a 'b' instead of a 'v' ?? LOL.

When I got the frame, it already had the trans cooler clamp the OP was asking about. It went through two blastings, and being powedercoated. It is on there very tight though, but I will likely get a new one, and touch up any spots/rust underneath.
