Trans jack ?

I have a need to do the clutch in my Cummins 5 speed. I am not gonna muscle it even with a floor jack. Any suggestions ? Anybody use a floor jack trans. adapter? Don't mind buying one, (tool hog here), but don't want to spend over 300.

The problem with floor/trans jack is getting the truck HIGH enough to use, Didn't care for them myself, jack with ratchet strap will do just as good IMO. Good luck

I tried using mine on my 442. Like the last post said, could not get the car high enough. What I did was take a 2x12, and bolted in on my jack, like you would the tran adapter. Sat the tran on it, then made wood spacers to steading it in place. I didn't even tie it down, but you could, and it worked good for me. Not a easy job for me to do any more as when I was young.

I got a trans jack at Harbor Freight for under $150. So far, it's worked great. I have no problems getting the car high enough, though I have a 3.5 ton floor jack.

i have always just used a floor jack removing the saddle a replacing it with flat plywood the centering of it is always tricky, no problems with height... harbor freight is probably the way to go because you can now get an affordable trans jack justified if you use it a lot

X2. That's why I bought mine. My floor jacks are just too tall for trans work. The HF trans jack was a great price, and while Chinesium, it's fine for the once-a-year that I need it.

the drawback to the floor jack is that you have to stack the saddle( i have some 6x6 and plank wood) to lift under the frame then you have to extend the jack stands quite, car does look a little scary that high... then rolling the tranny under the front end

Height of the vehicle on my Dodge2500 4x is not a problem. I looked at the HF one, and thanks for your comments on it. The Home Depot looks ok too. I can handle auto 3 and 4 speeds ok, but this 5 speed is more then I want to tackle without a jack, and if I can leave the transfer case on it will save me a from splitting them.

The NV4500 weighs 200 lb, and the transfer case another 100. If you are able to stabilize the pair so it doesn't tilt sideways, you can leave the front driveshaft on the transfer case, and pull the transmission and transfer case together. Leave the bellhousing on the trans if you wish.

Thanks, I wasn't sure about the weight. I figured on extending the uprights on whatever jack I buy, move them tight to the trans sides and chaining it down. Did a lot of International dump truck clutches in the 70s, so I have a clue.

I waited and the 2000 lbs one went on sale, 100 off. They let me use a 20% coupon and I was glad I got the big one.
