Having experience with 2 86's, I find that that it is hard to keep coolant in the overflow bottle. I think because of how big the vent is on the bottle. Hot coolant does in and steams away. Both our cars did not leak coolalnt (at least much) and the tank was often dry but the radiators full.

What makes you think it is running hotter than normal? What temperature are you getting? These run about 200* with a 195* stat.

CSM is best place for vac diags. These is not just one - you have to look up each system individually - a pain I know.

Please explain when it gets hot - at idle, on the highway, etc.
220 is hot but not dangerous yet.

The CSM is in printed books - for sale from a variety of places. The best tool you will ever have in your toolbox!
Here is a post that might help!

Cleancut84, does your car still have its catalytic converter? And does it use a little oil? An '85 442 I used to own gradually started running hotter and hotter. It was also starting to use a little more oil. Turns out the cat was gradually plugging up (with oil) -- which I didn't figure out until the engine basically wouldn't run any more.

I had a few cars that seemed to use coolant with no apparent leaks, I fixed them by having the radiators recored.
They didn't overheat, just lost coolant over time which stopped as soon as I fitted the recored radiator.
i know this defies logic but it worked.

Is the radiator cap ok?, sometimes we can miss the obvious. Also try a pressure test on the system, there may be a pinhole leak in the system that can be hard to spot, most good auto parts stores will do this for you.
