They Alway's Return to the Scene of the Crime!

"Joe" from Itasca, Illinois has returned to Ebay this time with a '72 442 W29 factory air convertible. You may remember "Joe" from prior Ebay advertisements. He had also posted a '71 442 blue convertible with factory reverse stripes and also a '71 442 beige Convertible currently advertised on Ebay. "Joe" also had the "most original, documented" Pace car ever.
"Joe" had advertised a '72 442, factory air, U code convertible , and described the car as being in stellar condition. The Ebay photographs depicted the car in excellent condition. I was ready to buy the car until we looked at the cars condition. Although represented in stellar condition and depicted in the photographs equally as well. We examined the car and it looked like it was hit with a shotgun blast, and that's only part of the story.
I passed on purchasing "Joe's" well documented car, not for the lack of documentation, but because, at best, of "Joe's "disingenuous represention of the cars condition.
Other members know of "Joe". He uses multiple last names and suffers difficulty maintaining consistency for selling his cars.
I tried posting a link to the '72 W29 convertible but failed.

Please be careful.

I did some searching on the bay and only found 2 W29 convertible cars in the Chicago area. One is listed as a one owner W/O air and the other is at VOLO auto museum with very nice documentation.
What color was the car? I also wonder if the listing has been pulled?

EDIT: My guess is that it's the first one seeing as this car is in Itasca.

The Ebay one in Itasca was recently on Craigslist in Binghamton NY. (gone now)
The one picture shows NY plates also.
A year or so ago I inquired about a low mileage original Caprice on Craigslist that had same background houses. Talked with an older guy (like in Ebay picture) and his mannerism turned me off.

Yes , you are correct. "Joe" currently has two (2) 442 convertibles currently on Ebay.
1. '72 Red W29 convertible
2. '71 beige convertible.

"Joe's" blue '71 442 convertible with the factory reverse stripes disappeared as has the '72 U code, factory air convertible depicted in photographs as a treasure and represented by "Joe" in great shape. In person the car looked like it was hit by a shotgun blast.
I also got his story that he wanted to keep the original hood on the '72, and later, "if I don't sell it, I'll put a W25 hood on the car.....my wife wants me to sell the car (too many) and I am in the aviation business".
He may claim that I am disgruntled. However other members can collaborate. "
Be careful.

Twilight thanks for the buyer beware. Such crap. Ill bet you could not get any good "money shot" pictures out of him either let alone a true description. People like this should be...........
Can you skool me/us on what Reverse Stripes are? Never heard the term reverse stripes except in the custom paint world. Do you mean the dreaded Chevelle deck lid stripes?

"Joe" would never offer to sell a car that wasn't "original or factory" equipped. No deck lid stripes on "Joe's" car. The '71 Viking Blue Convertible was equipped with "factory" reverse stripes on the cars hood. The car was advertised on Ebay and was the subject of much discussion on our site. 442Fred described "Joe's" gift of "creative writing " best, B.S.!
Be careful.
I'm sure other long-term members will describe "Joe's '71 442 convertible as I described " Joe's" '72 factory air, U code 442 convertible, great photographs and condition until seeing the car with what appeared to be shotgun blasts on the body panels.

Fwiw, the sandalwood 1971 442 convertible reportedly does not have it's original engine. I would think a buyer would rather know that, as opposed to "Original 455/340HP TH-400 car". Also, the prior long term owner, who sold the car a few weeks ago out of Michigan is the one who "purchased this 442 from the estate of the original owner".

Deceptive at best!
Thanks for your contribution!

I know the '71 442 Viking Blue convertible with factory reverse stripes was the subject of a thread from a potential buyer on our site.
I know that the thread is on our site somewhere, but I don't know how to resurrect the thread or the email post which has since disappeared.
I remember someone commenting, among other other issues on the '71 Viking Blue convertible, the factory reverse hood stripes!
Also, another member posted that the beige '71 442 convertible currently on Ebay doesn't have the engine and transmission that was original to the car, "Joe" manipulated the description to mislead a buyer by his description.

Do you know if this the same Joe that did the tag swap back in 2016 discussed here?
