Swapping bucket seats
The driver's side bucket seat is sprung and my back aches after a drive. Since the passenger seat doesn't get used much, is it possible to swap the seats? Are driver and passenger seats interchangeable? I have a 71 cutlass supreme with the back release button in the middle of the seat back.

Swapping tracks would be the way to go. Here's another option available from many suppliers.

thanks Joe. Hopefully I don't throw out my 54 year-old back wrestling the seats out to save my back from a sprung seat. Kinda reminds me of the Hole in the Bucket song.

I know you have a lot of detail drawings for Oldsmobile service. Do you have one for the seats? Also, any special tools required? I believe I removed the seats when it was at the body shop, but that was 27 years ago an I can't remember what was involved. I don't think I removed anything from the seats. I seem to recall there were 4 bolts holding the assembly to the floor.

It sounds like you're looking for a basic refresher for visualization. You obviously only need the "A" Body Manual Seat, but I'm including the three Figures identified in the Assembly text so you can see they aren't applicable to the "A" body.

Thanks guys. This will be a big help. Looks like you pull the whole assembly, tracks and all, remove the tracks and attach them to the swapped seat in the same position they were originally.

If you are into it, or need new springs, most of the big name retailers carry them for not exorbitant prices. Of course, if you're going to replace the springs, you MAW do the foam, jute, and burlap Rambo here on C.O. sells a kit for a good price with all the soft materials, excepting foam. Foam would be separate. He has some great do-it-yourself instructions and photos, as well. Be aware, though, if you do get new springs, for the very bottom wire around the "frame" of the spring-set for the upper/back, you may need to customize it. I did for my '68. Other than this, great fit and finish.
