Super tuning...w cars
#4
Yes I do............! I have one of the thirty "proof copies" given to us who were involved in the W project cars or involved in engineering. We were to review and make correct/notes and submit to Dale Smith. I also, have a final printed copy (must note that it still has a few of the mistakes not corrected in final printing). I have the 70' version also, which is larger than the 69' one and is pretty correct (8X11).

So what are suggesting? That I am obligated to do so..........?
First off I do not have the technology (better known as "smarts") to even begin to even post scanned copies of both documents. I do not mine sharing, however I am not going to go out of my way to do so unless someone helps me through it!
Gezzzzs, I still have a Samsung flip phone. I use it for three things 1) If I break down on the road and need AAA to come to me, 2) If I have a heart attack and need medical assistance, and 3) When my friends call to check on me or just say hello!
I have a new HP 8600 OfficeJet printer, scanner, copier, fax (fax not enabled) that is interfaced with my Dell Core i7 HD laptop. So I am educated enough to scan the pamphlets to my lap top, but from there I am pretty sure I will be lost on how to post such a large file.

I am in the same boat as Dave, only I just traded in my flip phone..haha..I miss it...I could get it scanned and send it to you Joffroi, just tell me where I am sending it to....
#9
Sent you my email. Depending on my schedule, it may take a few days to get something up but I'll try to keep everyone posted.
#10
So you are saying I would need to send both pamphlets to you via USPS? If so, who is going to pay for this? It isn't going to be me that is for sure..........! Plus I do not think I would like that these documents are not in my posseion.

If there is someone you feel more comfortable with lending them to, don't be afraid to say so. Or maybe you just don't want them to leave your house.
However, I would like to say if the 70 guide looks like the one I have pictured below, that is already available online.

Holy Hell!
Ok, I did not command Dave to do anything, nor implied he was obligated at all.
No, I don't think he would need to part them from his possession, or anything to inconvenience him or put his documents at risk. This would be the sort of thing, were I to suggest such a thing, that maybe at a mutually convenient time, people could maybe bring documents to Olds nationals or something, and someone could, in a controlled setting, scan or photo the information.
This is what wild about cars was doing before they sold out and started charging. Information should be free. There's a lot of part hoarders among us, I am sure people have the 5th or 6th copy of something for spare that other people have none of and need for projects, and I count myself among them, to my chagrin. Information is, unfortunately, the same way because people think the book is important, instead of the data that's on it.
I think what WE as a group could do is work on compiling a document registry hosted somewhere free for all to use. This would be a years long effort, and we would need to ensure that all documents are kept with their owners, not harmed, and done in a comfortable manner, as well as getting good quality scans or photos.
Pictures are better than scans these days anyways, plus you don't have to mash the binding.

Here is where I got the Supertuning info from for 1970. Starts at page 124. Still not sure if it is the same as what Dave has or not.

Koda said it. I didn't say anyone HAD to give me documents. I just said if people really wanted to see a central location for Oldsmobile related documents, I'd be more then happy to set something up and host them. Forums can be difficult to manage these type things. I have my site fully coded by me so I'm only at the limitation of how much free time I have to set things up.

If Dave has the documents, I demand he give them to me.
But anyway, when I'm Dave's age I hope I am exactly like him. I found his response somewhat comical and truthful.
While I wasn't exactly inferring that he keep his relics totally to himself, I was just saying he should do what he feels comfortable with. Personally, I'd be comfortable sending something of this value to any one of the members who posted, but it's easy for me to say since I don't own one.

I'm going to be like Bernie. I think everyone is entitled to a copy for free!
If you are in possession of a copy, You owe it to the rest of us because we are entitled to it.
This is all in fun guys.
I'd love to see the info in the book.

Yes, that is the same 1970 Super Tuning Book I have
Joffroi:
Sounds good to me to post on your web site!
ALL:
Please chill out.......! Someone stated about letting them scan/post. That isn't going to happen. I want them in my possession.
I can bring both books plus the Inspectors Guides from 1969 to 1972 (the ones In Line tube is selling) which include the supplements (changes) issued for January 1972 A-B-C and Toro (In Line Tube does not have this copy) to the OCA Nats. this July. One of you needs to figure out how to get them scanned there and be responsible for there safe keeping! I do not mine if the staples are removed to do that. Just give them back to me and I'll re-staple them myself. These Inspectors Books are well used and a few have notations in them. The "proof copy" for the 69' Tuning book has correction notes I made. The 70' Tuning book is pristine, as it is an unissued one and stored in a plastic sleeve.
I have other documents, engineering drawings/prints, such as: the front and rear spring specification for 1970 models, wire size, and how the vendor is to make them by part number and application; and other info. Would need to dig them out. Don't have as much as I use too what with moving and the amount of time that has passed (like 43 yrs).
My offer is the best I feel comfortable with!

Dave, I hope you and Joffroi can work something out. I think the info you have
stashed away would be a incredible asset for the Olds community. I myself would Love to see some of them as well, very cool.
Oh, and nice find Ted. Where can I get a copy?

Also, like 70-442-70 said, most of the info is on the GM Heritage Center site!
Except the site does not list some of the items I have such as: "Engineering Change Orders", engineering drawings, engineering release letters, and engineering letters for production changes.

All were pretty mundane errors--but the silicone one got a laugh.

I would categorize most of the errors as the equivalent of typos--most were obvious. Examples, in the table on page one, one of the dimensions was 1 11/15. Missing labels for some of the events in the camshaft table. Springs made of silcone steel (is that what they use for implants when women don't want their tatas to move?). A part number with a missing digit. Example engine i.d. number for 1969 W-30 shown as starting with a 0 instead of a 9. Commas in the 1969 W-31 example engine i.d. number. And some others that aren't coming to mind right now.
All were pretty mundane errors--but the silicone one got a laugh.
