Stuck front brake drum?
Stuck front brake drum?
Putting this here because somewhat urgent. I have a 56 Super 88 that has been sitting in my garage for about a year. It runs, but hasn't moved in that time. I am having it trailered to a mechanic next week to get some work done, so I pulled it out to clean this weekend.
I realized pretty quickly that the front passenger wheel is completely stuck and will not rotate. I assume this is a drum issue, but have never heard of a front drum getting stuck.
I can't get to the wheel as it is in the corner of my garage and there isn't enough space to work in. I've also thought about a wheel dolly, which could get me out of the garage, but there is a slight slope to my driveway--not sure how safe that would be.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

Well if you can't get to the wheel and you can't move the car you have a problem.
Have you tried to slide a floor jack under it from the far side? or lift the car from the middle, place floor jacks under it, slide under and ratchet the adjuster open. If that doesn't work try with side dikes reach over and cut the rubber brake line... Just a thought or two... Tedd

Thanks both, much appreciated. Had a bunch of things going on so I wasn't able to get to it now. Going to try the adjuster first and cut line as a last resort. Adjuster access in the oval shaped hole on the very bottom of the drum, correct?
Any info on proper jack points for the 56? It looks to be the cross member right behind the oil pan for the floor jack and the part of the frame right to the rear of the front tires, but I wan't to make sure. I cannot find any diagram anywhere.
Thanks for the help, I am still very new to this Olds!

Get a wheeled floor jack. Jack up that corner of the car. Now push the car to where you can access the wheel and adjuster slot. If you can't get the adjuster backed off, cut or grind the heads off the brake shoe retention pins that stick out the back of the backing plate. This will release the shoes from the backing plate. Remove the spindle nut and outer wheel bearing and you'll be able to work the drum off, probably along with the shoes.
