Strange Aluminum Wheels

In the salvage yard this week I find this super clean '86 Cadillac Deville. One of those cars you look at and wonder why it's there. Gorgeous clean interior, car was 100% complete. It had these strange wheels on it. They were aluminum wheels fashioned just like stock steel wheels. The hubcaps were still in the trunk.

Anyone ever see these?

Wow, interesting! They appear to be factory. I wonder if this was more of GM's experimentation with lightweight parts like the aluminum hoods and core supports and fiberglass tailgates they randomly inserted into production cars in the 1980s.

I have never seen them but they would really look nice polished up and with the caps put back on them.

Yes, it looks like a replica of a stock steel wheel.

They had full wheel covers; only part of the lip could be seen with the cover on.

Neat, they look like a base wheel manufactured by Alcoa. Good luck finding replacements😂

Oh yeah I see now, no nibs to attach a cap to. That's too bad because it would still look good with the right looking caps in the middle. I am kind of an old school steelie guy at heart.

Very cool! It even has whitewalls. I bet the engine is an oddball too. They didn't go to the Northstar until 1994. 😎

Did you try a magnet on them? Looks awfully thin around the lugs to be aluminum. I was thinking maybe galvanized.
