Steering gearbox cover

I was trying to figure out why my gearbox was so full of gunk so as I was cleaning it up I noticed the cover is cracked in a few places and must be leaking. Is it possible to buy a replacement cover or am I going to have to get a new gearbox? Thanks in advance for any help

Is the crack on the right side of the gearbox above the S stamp? It doesn't look bad. I'm surprised that would be the cause of your leak. If you're certain that caused all the nasty build up maybe you could remove the cover and have the crack welded...

Ya there is actually about 4 different cracks in it. I don't know for sure if that's where it is coming from. I do work at a welding shop so I though of trying to weld it but sometimes that can completely ruin it depending on what type of metal it is. If its some type of cast iron it's pretty hard to fix

I've got some extra power steering boxes. Do you want to just replace the top piece or have a complete unit?

There's actually several members much closer to your location than I am that have large collections of spare parts. If you want to try a parts wanted thread, then if you don't get what you need offered at a good price let me know.

Are you sure those are cracks ?

My cover looks very similar with the lines, but mine is not 'cracked'. The lines are just cosmetic. Its almost as if whatever process was used to make the covers causes these imperfections.

Can you see that the 'cracks' are thru the cover ? Even if there are microscopic hairline cracks, I would suspect bad seals or dirty fluid to be a more probable cause of 'gunk' .
