steering column swap

i bought a steering collum off ebay. it came off a 86 but the guy said he thinks it should work on my 83. will it?

Yes. The only potential difference, for a column shift car, would be the number of gears in the shifter detent plate (3 spd AT vs. 4 spd AT).
