I'm going through my extra starters and alternators. Where can I cross reference the part numbers for the correct application? I have the Parts and Service manual but it is not as detailed as I wanted. Thanks.

There was some discussion about accuracy. But I purchased one and have found some good info on keying out parts including alternators and starters.

I have that book and I've used it to ID a few. I still have 10 that aren't ID'd. I can post some numbers tomorrow. But my question is where will you find the info? Thanks.

Mike Siedlik's book has numbers. Some have questioned it's accuracy though.

Google is your friend.

 

Matt, I've got a GM reference book call Chassis and Body Parts Catalog, Oldsmobile models thru 1975, effective November 1979. I've checked a few items and sometimes its consistent with other references and sometimes its different. I'm not sure if I'm reading it wrong, or maybe this book has different part numbers from the references of the 1960's. So for what its worth, if you have a part number and it shows up in this book its probably right. But if it doesn't, then I'm guessing the number was superseded by the 1979 printing. If you want to post or email me some numbers I'll share what I can find.

Hey Matt, if you list the numbers you have I can tell you what they belong to.
I have Delco-Remy starter and alternator numbers for pretty much every manufacturer and model ever made from the mid 40's to 1977.

 

I have a list of a few in my pn database
some came from an old MOTOR's manual, or Chiltons, and are questionable.
Others from factory PN listings

Sounds like R.Devo has all the good info there.

 

I probably have a few hundred AC, GM, DELCO, original parts manuals, + other resources...no kidding! You guys have seen me ID shocks, carbs, alts, dists, whatever. I can ID most any GM part, the superceded #'s, the modern #, etc. Prob is, it's extremely time consuming. I spent a LOT of time trying to help that bugdude ID that alt, when all he had to do was give the year or the number stamped on it. When you are trying to run these numbers down, the most helpful thing is the number + date code, even if you can't de-cipher the date.

 

Here are the starter numbers:
1108387 1108768 1108386 1108427 1108352 1107320 1108386 1107809 1108794 1108759

Any help is appreciated. If you find them please let me know what resource you used. I've used GOOGLE and found 3 of these.

8352 also fits some Caddy aps. 1108427 1970 Chev Pass 350 w/ auto trans

8786 buick electra lesabre riviera 8427 chevy caprice impala chevelle malibu nova 7809 ? guessing industrial, but don't know. 8759 pontiac and firebird.

 

I believe the only two numbers not already accounted for are:
1108768 correct for Buick 455CI, 1975 2nd production and 1976.
The 1107809 does not show anywhere? It is most likely a obsolete or superseded number. The 1107 prefix generally signifies an older starter, late 50's early 1960's.
In addition to what others have said, the 1108352 is correct for Toronado's 1968-1973. Interestingly it is also used in Chevrolet and GMC motorhomes in 1973.

 

I agree with rocketdevo, I had placed that 809 starter as 61 or back, but no exact ID. It's not really surprising those motorhomes used the Olds starter, many were 455 Olds powered. 1973...that was the year they looked like Scoobie's "mystery Van" kind of. I forget what they called them Voyager, maybe? There was a really nice one for sale on ebay, recently. There's also one inn the GM Heritage Museum. One final note for others...I already told Matt that for me.......it is way easier to find the aps if you give the date codes. That narrows it down for me a LOT. I use TBA's because they are right here at my fingertips. They don't list like 1108352 1108353..with the aps. I don't know of any source that does. Actually...I have a Hollander's in my basement that I haven't look at in 25 years! I'll have to check that.........
