Stanadyne ( 260 ci )

Hello everyone, do you have any techniques for repriming the injection pump on my 4.3L V8 diesel (260 ci)?
The pump is a Stanadyne DB2, I think, and I'm having trouble repriming it.
Thanks for your replies, guys.

Not familiar with that engine, but I had A Dura Max, and it had a bleader screw, and hand pump, on top of fuel filter. I would think this one must be almost the same. Don't you have a owner's manual?

If there's a fuel filter before the injection pump ensure it is full of fuel. As mentioned, there might be a bleeder screw that you can depress. When cranking with the bleeder screw depressed only fuel should come out

You can also bleed each of the injectors individually. Just loosen the fuel line nut on the injector until it spits fuel. Make sure you wear safety glasses and don't use your glow plugs and ether at the same time.

Is this a new problem? Has it been sitting for a long time? Has the pump been rebuilt?.

Hi,Stanadyne pumps self-purge if:

1) The lift pump is working properly

2) The fuel return to the tank is not blocked

Since most Stanadyne IDI injection pumps are higher mileage nowadays, they'll likely need to be babied to start as I described above. Especially if it's suffering from air intrusion.

If the vehicle fails to hot start try pouring tepid water on the IP. If it quickly starts that's an indication that the IP is worn and will need replacement.
